PARISH BULLETIN

Fourth Sunday of
Advent
Sentence for the Day
Blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfilment of what was spoken to her by the Lord.
Luke 1.45
Collect
Gracious God,
you have visited your people and redeemed us in your Son:
as we prepare to celebrate his birth,
make our hearts leap for joy at the sound of your word,
and move us by your Spirit to bless your wonderful works.
We ask this through him whose coming is certain,
whose Day draws near, your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Prayer for Our New Parish Priest
We give you thanks, O God
for calling your servant Fr Tom to come amongst us as priest and pastor.
Strengthen and sustain him as he prepares for this transition.
Be with us as we welcome him into our midst,
that we may faithfully minister together
in the name of the one who said to his disciples,
‘I am among you as one who serves’,
our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
Liturgy: via PowerPoint + APBA Colour – Purple
Readings: Micah 5.2-5a; Song of Mary; Hebrews 10.5-10; Luke 1.39-45
Fr Peter writes:
Today we celebrate the fourth Sunday of Advent and light the candle of Love to complete the set HOPE, PEACE, JOY and LOVE. We begin to focus on the greatness of God’s love for us. God chose a young woman, Mary, of David’s line to bear Jesus. As her pregnancy progresses, she visits her cousin Elizabeth who is pregnant with John the Baptist. As they meet John responds in the womb and both mothers rejoice knowing they are part of a great event. Elizabeth responds as the Holy Spirit leads her to proclaim great things about Mary and her child. We call this the Song of Mary and use it in place of a psalm in the service today. Little did they know the full extent of what they were involved in.
I remember 45 years ago today (19th December) when I was ordained priest in the Church of God in St John’s Cairns in the diocese of North Queensland. There was great love with my family and the parishioners around and the laying on of hands to receive the Holy Spirit for the ministry as a priest but little did I know where God would lead.
As we prepare for our celebration of ‘God with Us’ may we each know the love of God and be open to the Holy Spirit leading us into new pathways.
Yours in the household of God, Peter+
Labyrinth Message
This week's labyrinth message for you to "walk with" is : Is there a person who is your "go to person" in crucial times? .. who can share and walk with through both your "ups and downs" ? I wonder why you chose them ? Are you " that person" for someone else ?
The Gospel for this week tells the beautiful story of Mary hurrying to visit her "Aunt"(?) Elizabeth after her Annunciation / Divine encounter. What selfless shared joy, reassurance and support Mary found in Elizabeth .. but more than that … they discovered that they walked a shared path ..both had said "Yes" to their own Divine Invitation that offered mystery, pain, joy and hope within the Divine "wider plan" of salvation. I wonder if this week you may be invited to "go deeper and further" ? .. and, perhaps, you too may seek.. or become.. the close companion of another on an intertwined path into the Divine?

Prayers of the people Prepared by Barbara
As wise men from the east came looking for Jesus to worship at His cradle, so we look forward to His coming. In the quietness of our hearts we pray for the world and its peoples of every nation. For refugees in Afghanistan ,UK, the Sudan and for those countries at war. Make us generous in our giving that the hungry may eat and thrive as you planned. We pray for all leaders in their decision making and give thanks for their deliberations in the Covid 19 pandemic. May we consider our own decisions in caring for the needs of ourselves and others. Help us to do what is right.
Lord help us to serve you and hear our prayer
Creator God, without our church leaders and their faith, we have no guide. We give thanks for Archbishop Phillip, Bishop John, Frs. Peter, John and Allan. Heal Fr John's retina so he may come home. Lord we thank you for our nominators and Bp John for their work in finding Rev Tom and his wife and family coming to work amongst us. May we give of our best in welcoming them.
Lord help us to serve you and hear our prayer.
Merciful God, we pray for our community on the mountain, for all who serve the people here, police, SES, paramedics, medical staff and service groups. We give thanks for their faithful service and ask for safety and good health in their daily work. We pray for those in need and all who care for them. The young on holiday. The elderly in care especially in Roslyn Lodge. We pray for Geoff ,Pam, and others known to us. We give thanks for a good outcome for Joan after her operation and pray for those who have asked for our prayers and name them aloud or in the silence of our hearts.
Lord help us to serve you and hear our prayer.
Loving God, we read of Mary visiting her cousin Elizabeth and rejoicing and worshipping, being together, looking forward to the births of their promised babies. We too give thanks and praise for Christmas family gatherings across open borders where possible and for the use of technology when unable to travel. We pray for loved ones who have died without their family around them to comfort and bless them. And for all who have gone before us in the faith and hope, which we celebrate with joy at Christ's coming.
Almighty God, you have promised to hear our prayers.
Grant that what we have asked for in faith, we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Meditation - a weekly thought
"My soul waits in silence for God for from Him comes my hope" for He has redeemed me, God of truth. (Psalm 62 v 5) As I wait for Him, how can I dedicate myself to Jesus again this Advent and into the New Year? In what ways do I need to?
December Retiring Collection: Christmas Bowl
The Christmas Bowl provides a powerful mechanism for sharing God’s love, with those who need it, through practical Christian action.
Please Note: there will be No Morning Tea at St George’s on Sunday 26th December
Name Badges
Please remember to wear name badges. We all have a memory block sometimes so they can often get us out of trouble! And of course they are very useful to help Fr Peter get to know us better.
