Philippians 3.20
Collect Second Sunday in Lent
God of our ancestors,
whose chosen servant Abraham
was given faith to obey your call
and go out into the unknown:
endow your Church with such faith
that we may follow you with courage;
for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Welcome Xander Kevin Hughes, Family and friends for Xander’s baptism at St George’s Church this morning.
Liturgy: via PowerPoint + APBA Colour – Purple
Readings: Genesis15.1-12, 17-18; Ps 27; Philippians 3.17-4.1; Luke 13.31-35
Fr Peter writes:
How do we hear what God is saying to us at this time? Today we will be welcoming Xander into the family of God through baptism so we will be reminded of our own baptismal commitment to follow Jesus in our personal life.
Abram, who later was known as Abraham, struggles to understand the message from God. He asks for a convincing sign that it is really God he is hearing.
When Paul writes to the Phillipians he encourages the Christians to follow the example of the Christian leaders living in the midst of people living as enemies of the cross of Christ. There is a choice to make; live in a way that gives witness to Jesus and not following the ways that focus on material things and earthly ways. We are free to choose but only one way reflects that we are following Jesus.
The gospel reading set for today describes a conflict between the Pharisees who want Jesus to give priority to his own safety rather than exercising his ministry of ’casting out demons and performing cures’. Jesus has a clear understanding of his mission and continues in the face of opposition.
May we all find time to stop our business, spend time listening for God’s guidance and move forward in faith on our Christian journey this Lent.
Yours in the household of God,
Peter+
Fr Peter will be in the parish Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday this week

Labyrinth Message
This week's labyrinth message for you to "walk with" is : Have you found yourself caught between a desire to flee based upon your instincts of survival and your calling [ or a duty ] to persevere and "press on"?
In this week's Gospel, we are reminded the Jesus faced a similar dilemma … yet despite His sorrow [ and disappointment and foreboding ?] He pressed on following His calling that led to such a terrible "end". But despite this, the end was not Good Friday .. but the triumph of Easter Sunday.
I wonder if, in the midst of the turbulent times for so many, our walk this week in Lent may involve similar challenge(s ) .. Will we be able to simply take "the next step" in faith and obedience as we go?
Prayers of the people Prepared by Barbara
Almighty and everlasting God, in this time of war in Ukraine and natural disaster in our country, You are there and You are here. When the faithful call upon you , you hear them. We pray with the Ukrainian people and those who have lost everything in the floods,
We trust in you Lord you are our God.
Merciful God, We pray for our leaders in government to send help in the best possible way. May the Holy Spirit touch the oppressors to show them how to withdraw from devastating Ukraine. May financial help come quickly to all those who need it and hands on help from the able bodied, the ADF and the SES. We give grateful thanks for all helpers in this crisis.
We trust in you Lord you are our God.
Healing spirit of God, touch the hearts and minds of those who are sick .Give them the courage and strength to cope with their sickness. We bless medical staff and paramedics, those who fly helicopters saving lives. Especially we pray for those who have asked for our prayers.................who we name aloud or in the silence of our hearts.
We trust in you Lord you are our God.
Welcoming God, as Xander Kevin comes for baptism today, to be washed with holy water and welcomed into the church community, may he be guided on the spiritual journey by loving and caring people in his life. That he may joyfully come to know the name Jesus who died for our sins and rose again in glory. For without the resurrection there is no faith.
We trust in you Lord you are our God.
Almighty God, we pray for the soul of Geoff Perkins who passed into eternal life. We give grateful thanks for him and all his good works in life and especially his faithfulness to you Lord. We remember him with much love and pray for his family and friends who will come together on Wednesday afternoon.
Our hearts go out to all who have lost loved ones , those in the bombed hospital in Mariolup and other places of war . And those mourning the loss of Shane Warne and Rod Marsh who gave so much enjoyment to sporting fans.
We trust in you Lord you are our God, and we pray that what we have asked in faith we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Year’s Mind Anniversaries this month:
Christopher Fulcher, Tim Lyne, Matthew Power, Amber Mailer, John Vance.
