Ministry Sunday
Sentence for the Day
‘As each one has received a gift,
use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace’
1 Peter 4.10
Collect for Ministry Sunday
Almighty God,
you have made us members of Christ and of his Church,
and have taught us through him that it is more blessed to give than to receive,
make us truly thankful for all your goodness;
help us to deepen our commitment to you as stewards
of our time, talents, and money, and guide us in all things to know and do your will, for the honour and glory of your name.
This we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Collect of the Day
25th Sunday after Pentecost
God,
welcoming refuge for the outcast,
and upholder of justice for the oppressed:
maintain the hope of the poor,
so that the time may soon come
when no one need want for food and shelter,
and all will learn to share freely
following the example of your Son, who gave his very self;
who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Fr Harry writes:
The last two weeks the worlds media has been focused on the COP 26 Conference in Glasgow. With earnest striving to meet emissions reduction of 50% by 2030 and net zero emissions by 2050. The zeal of the speakers as fervent as any fired up evangelical preacher predicting death and damnation. Even Prince Charles weighed in with dire predictions and had a few mumbled words about the slow pace of reform in Australia.
At least the conference gave a little respite from the daily Covid19 pronouncements. Meanwhile, here on the mountain, at Tamborine, and on the plains at Canungra we are turning our attention to the wellbeing of our parish. Keith Slater and his Stewardship team have moved heaven and earth to alerting us to the needs of our parish. It all comes to a climax this Sunday when we individually make a commitment of our time and talents for the wellbeing of the church we love and serve. The church which has nurtured us throughout our lives and hopefully will nurture our children and children’s children.
The scriptures are dripping with references to ministry. I have always held two such exhortations as special:
Matthew 5.41 “go the extra mile”
Mark 10.45 For the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many’.
No doubt you have your favourite quotations. I wish you every blessing as you determine how best to serve our Lord in the Tamborine Mountain parish.
With my best wishes, Fr Harry
Meditation (a weekly thought from Barbara)
From the silence, from the listening comes the right choice. How to serve God in this place. From the use of our given gifts comes selfless action to serve. God gives us the will and the strength.
Labyrinth Message
This week's labyrinth message for you to "walk with" is : What does it mean to you that you have not chosen God … but rather that God has chosen you ?
The Gospel for this week reminds us that it’s not about how good we are or how lucky we have been to be chosen [or being in the right place at the right time] … but rather how all this choosing business is a total gift of Grace… and for what purpose ? "So that you can bring forth fruit ". I wonder what "fruit" will emerge for you this week?.. And what fruit our parish is being invited to "bear and share" with others this year in ministry service ?

Parish Office
Thank you to those who have managed to find alternatives to transiting through the Vestry and Office when undertaking activities or visiting the church. Please consider sending and receiving an e-mail for the many enquiries to reduce the crowding in this space and allow for less interruption in the limited time the office is open.
November Retiring Collection: .Anglican Board of Mission
This year marks the 150th Anniversary of the Coming of the Light in the Torres Strait. God was on both sides of the beaches that day in 1871: with the missionaries, and with the people on the beach who received them. Exciting developments in the Torres Strait include the establishment of a household of the Melanesian Brotherhood on Thursday Island and moves toward autonomy for the Torres Strait Island region within the Anglican Diocese of North Queensland. Support through prayer is essential and is welcome. The Diocese of North Queensland also needs funds for building up local leadership – through education, gathering for meetings and conferences, preparation of liturgical and educational material in local languages expressed in culturally appropriate ways, provision of means of communication, and travel.
Please consider donating generously to the appeal.
Calling all Choristers
The 2021 St Luke’s Canungra Carols will be held on Wednesday 22nd December at 6.00pm. This will be our fourth such event, growing and improving a little each year. We will again have Stuart, the wonderful tenor who has joined us in previous years. This year we would like to collect a group who enjoy singing to establish a casual ‘choir’ to support the carols singing on the night. A couple of rehearsals might be needed before the night. If you would like to come along and sing with others who enjoy singing we’d love to have your company. Expressions of interest to Sonya in the parish office, preferably by email.
