24th Sunday after

Pentecost

Collect of the Day

O God,

whose blessed Son came into the world

that he might destroy the works of evil

and make us your children and heirs of eternal life:

grant that, having this hope,

we may purify ourselves as he is pure;

that, when he comes again with power and great glory,

we may be made like him in his eternal and glorious kingdom;

where he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Prayer of the Week

Blessed Lord,

you have caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning:

grant that we may so hear them, read, mark, learn and inwardly digest them,

that, by patience and the comfort of your holy word,

we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life,

which you have given us in our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

Fr Harry writes:

The Anglican parish of Tamborine Mountain has two major Sundays each year for parishioners to make a commitment of time, talents and money to support the ongoing mission of the parish for the proclamation of the Good News of Jesus Christ , our Lord and Saviour. The first day, held in June, concerned our monetary gifts. Mr John King, our treasurer, has outlined to you the financial position of the parish. I congratulate him for his diligence and for regularly updating us all about the finances.

Happily, the parish is asset rich and has no debt. However the regular income needs to be improved for the long term viability of the parish. It would be a sad day if the parish had to return to the ‘rock from which it was hewn’ (Beaudesert) in 1987.

The second day is next Sunday, 14th November, Ministry Sunday, when we commit our time and talents for the physical care of the church, which underpins it’s mission. The excellent literature prepared by Keith Slater and the Stewardship Committee provides an exhaustive list of jobs. Hopefully you will be able to identify where best you can help.

Last Sunday we remembered those who have gone before us in the faith, many of whom contributed mightily in the building of St Luke’s in 1936 and St George’s in 1992. Your commitment will honour the great work of those who have gone before.

         With my best wishes, Fr Harry

 Ministry Sunday 14th November

Last Sunday and through this week, papers for Ministry Sunday have been distributed to parishioners to allow time for your consideration of the various tasks that require volunteer help in our parish. Next Sunday there will be time during the service to offer your time and talents to the parish in support of our mission. Please remember to bring your response sheets along on Sunday 14th. This information will be used to help create rosters for 2022. Any questions about the various ministries can be directed to your wardens or the Stewardship Committee—Keith, Delma, John and Anne King and Sonya.

 Labyrinth Message

This week's labyrinth message for you to "walk with" is : When it comes to stewardship, how much is enough to give to God? For some it's a little, others a tithe - 10% ...or even more.

The Gospel for this week reminds us that its not how much we have or give away that God is interested in … but rather how much money and our possessions "have" of us. We often speak of walking into the future in trust. Could we, like the widow, give away the last of our resources feeling secure in His Providence?

I wonder what would our parishes [ and wider church ] look like… and be able to do in our community as a witness to Jesus ... if we were all "better stewards"?

Congratulations

St George’s scarecrow entry received a HIGHLY COMMENDED

Well done all.

 Prayers of the people  Prepared by Rachel and Others

 Dear Lord please help the world to be freed from Covid. Help everyone to realise that we are not free of it until everyone in the world is free of it.

Lord it is the same with the world environment problem, please help everyone to realise that it is not enough to do the minimum. Please help everyone especially young people to work to restore the planet we live in, so that it is truly sustainable for everyone.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer

 Lord please help people to get through tough times. Please help people to see your light. Please help them to come into your light so that they may be complete and able to draw on your strength to sustain them and in so doing to grow to be at one with you.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer

 Lord please grow your church. Help us to realise that it is your church, not ours and to prayerfully work with you to build it up, fix it up, resource it, make it child friendly and in so doing draw many to your church

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer

 Lord we pray for all who are in trouble or distress:

For those who despair for the future;

For the broken-hearted and all who mourn for loved ones;

For the sick especially remembering before you……….. and ones we will now name…

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer

 Lord we give you thanks for all who have served you faithfully to their life’s end.

Keep us ever watchful and ready for the day of your coming. May we look to that time with great joy, along with all who have died in Christ.

Loving God, we await for your coming in glory;

In your mercy, accept our prayers through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Being, just being; knowing He waits for you; a loving invitation to just be. A blessing in itself; being accepted as you are. Come as you are.

 Parish Office

It has come to my notice (having experienced it for myself) the congestion and traffic flow through the Vestry and Office on Tuesdays and Thursdays . You may consider sending  and receiving an e-mail for the many enquiries to reduce the crowding in this space. An email is less intrusive and disruptive for administration. Seeking to see the Priest is entirely another situation !!.

 November Retiring Collection: .Anglican Board of Mission

This year marks the 150th Anniversary of the Coming of the Light in the Torres Strait. God was on both sides of the beaches that day in 1871: with the missionaries, and with the people on the beach who received them. Exciting developments in the Torres Strait include the establishment of a household of the Melanesian Brotherhood on Thursday Island and moves toward autonomy for the Torres Strait Island region within the Anglican Diocese of North Queensland. Support through prayer is essential and is welcome. The Diocese of North Queensland also needs funds for building up local leadership – through education, gathering for meetings and conferences, preparation of liturgical and educational material in local languages expressed in culturally appropriate ways, provision of means of communication, and travel.

Please consider donating generously to the appeal.

 Africa Talks for U3A

Would you like to learn a bit more about Africa? If so, this is your chance. In 1971 John Noble and his family drove from Nairobi to Cape Town, and based on this drive, John will be giving two PowerPoint talks in the Georgian Room at 9.30 am on Fridays 12th and 19th November. Apart from his actual drive, John will talk about mountains, rivers, waterfalls, railways and gold. He will also outline some historical details about the countries and prominent people who have influenced them. Some video clips will also be shown. The talks are free (apart from $3 for tea/coffee) and open to all. If you would like to come, please contact John.
