Repent, and be baptised every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 2.38–39

Collect

O God,

your Son made himself known to his disciples

in the breaking of bread:

open the eyes of our faith,

that we may see him in his redeeming work;

who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Liturgy:  via PowerPoint + APBA   Colour – White

Readings:

Acts 2.14a, 36-41; Psalm 116.1-4,11-18; 1 Peter 1.13-25; Luke 28.8-15a

We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh Nation, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today.

A note from Helen

We all have our ‘blind spots’ the things we don’t ‘see’ in others, the things we refuse to ‘see’ in ourselves, and things we don’t ‘see’ in the world around us.  Cleopas and his companion did not ‘see’ Jesus in the man who was accompanying them on the road until he ‘broke bread’ with them.  How often do our ‘blind spots’ prevent us from seeing what is really happening; prevent us from seeing God in situations we may not be expecting God to be in; prevent us from seeing opportunities for welcoming, sharing, or consoling others.  Some of our blind spots are funny and forgivable, but many others are tragic.  And not every ‘blind spot’ experiences a cure.  The day ended for Cleopas and his companion with them regaining sight, may it be so for us.

This week’ Intercessions:  selected by John N from A Prayer Book for Australia

For Peace

God of the nations, whose sovereign rule brings justice and peace, have mercy on our broken and divided world. Shed abroad your peace in the hearts of all, and banish from them the spirit that makes for war, that all peoples may learn to live as members of one family, and in obedience to your law, through Jesus Christ out Lord Amen

For good Government

Spirit of justice and truth, grant to our Governments and all who serve in public life wisdom and skill, imagination and energy, protect them from corruption and the temptation of self-serving. Help us to commit ourselves to the common good, that our land may be a secure home for all peoples, through Jesus Christ out Lord. Amen

For the Church

Most gracious Father, we pray for your holy church, fill it with all truth, where it is corrupt, purge it, where it is in error, correct it, where anything is amiss, reform it, where it is right, strengthen and confirm it, where it is in want, furnish it, where it is divided, heal it, and unite it in your love, through Jesus Christ out Lord. Amen

For our homes

Visit, Lord, our homes and drive from them all the snares of the evil one. Let your holy angels dwell in them to preserve us in peace, and may your blessing rest upon us evermore, through Jesus Christ out Lord. Amen

For the media

Almighty God, you proclaim your truth in every age by many voices, direct those who speak where many listen, those who write what many read, and those who influence what many see, that they may do their part in making the heart of this people wise, its mind sound and its will righteous, through Jesus Christ out Lord. Amen

The poor and neglected

God of mercy and pity, remember the homeless, the destitute, the sick, the aged, and all who have none to care for them. Heal those who are broken in body or spirit, and turn their sorrow into joy, particularly today we pray for..............

Help us to minister to their needs, for the love of your son Jesus Christ out Lord. Amen

Grace

Go before us O Lord in all our doings with your most gracious favour and assist us with your continual help, that in all works, begun, continued and ended in you we may glorify your holy name and finally by your mercy obtain everlasting life.

Almighty God, grant that what we have asked in faith we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen
