Fourth Sunday

in Lent

 Sentence

God has reconciled us to himself through Christ,

and given us the ministry of reconciliation.

2 Corinthians 5.18

Collect Fourth Sunday in Lent

God of compassion,

you are slow to anger, and full of mercy,

welcoming sinners who return to you with penitent hearts:

receive in your loving embrace all who come home to you,

and seat them at your bountiful table,

that, with all your children,

they may feast with delight on all that satisfies

the hungry heart.

We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Saviour,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Prayer for Tom

God our Shepherd,

            we thank you for calling The Rev’d Dr Tom Hunton

            to serve in the Parish of Tamborine Mountain as Priest-in-Charge.

Uphold Tom and his family as they prepare to re-locate;

            and prepare us to receive and welcome them.

Equip and strengthen Tom for his ministry and leadership in the years ahead.

Enable him to be among us as one who

            Preaches the Gospel with conviction,

            Administers the Sacraments with reverence

            and cares for your people with love,

that together we might `go for growth’

and bring forth the fruit of your Spirit in all we do;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.  AMEN.

Readings: Joshua 5.2-12    Ps 32;           2 Corinthians 5.16-21;          Luke 15.11-32

Fr Peter writes:

The parable of the prodigal son tells of two brothers, one asked his father for his inheritance, left home and spent it all with no thought for the future. Wednesday 23rd March 2022 was Earth Overshoot Day—Australia. If the whole world consumed the earths resources at the same rate as we do in Australia, that is the date on which humanity would have consumed or damaged what the earth could replace or repair in a whole year. We are one of the worst nations. Only five countries have an earlier date.

See Focus articles, there have been three recently including: SEQ Anglicans mark Australia’s Overshoot Day with bell tolling in churches and hymn singing outside Trevor Evans’ electoral office (anglicanfocus.org.au)

The mission of our church is each day we strive:

· To teach, baptise and nurture new believers;

· To respond to human need by loving service;

· To seek to transform unjust structures of society, to challenge violence of every kind and pursue peace and reconciliation;

· To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth;

· To worship and celebrate the grace of God;

· And to live as one holy Catholic and apostolic Church.

As we suffer from flooding, bushfires, drought and other natural disasters more frequently, we are experiencing the cost of failing to reduce our impact on the planet.

Lent is a good time to reflect on our personal impact, the impact of our community and the impact of government policies.

Let us reduce our consumption, especially our waste, and recycle, reuse, repurpose things. Consumerism is destroying the planet.

Yours in the household of God,

Peter+

Fr Peter will be in the parish Thursday, Friday  and Sunday this week

Prayers of the people   Prepared by Charlotte

Gracious and loving God, we pray for the world, for the welfare of all your people and for your creation entrusted to our care; for all in positions of authority; for men and women in their daily work. In particular, we pray for the people of Ukraine. We pray for an end to suffering and for the restoration of peace and justice to the nation. We pray for those in the world affected by the coronavirus, through illness, anxiety or loneliness and pray for those in Australia affected by floods.

God of love, hear our prayer.

We pray for your worldwide church; for our brothers and sisters in Christ and for the people of this parish. We pray for our new minister, Rev Tom, and his family and pray they have a safe journey from England. We pray for our locum Father Peter and thank-you for his time with this parish. We also pray that you bless and help our church so that we may continue to grow.

God of love, hear our prayer.

We pray for the communities in which we live and work; for our families, our friends and all whom we love; for the forgotten and undervalued people of society.

God of love, hear our prayer.

We pray for all who suffer; for the hungry and homeless, the lonely and friendless; for the sick and the sorrowing and all who care for them. Transform the lives of all who suffer, that they may share in the hope of your risen life.

God of love, hear our prayer.

We pray that you help each of us be more Christ-like in our thoughts, words and deeds. Transform our lives by your risen power, that we, with all your saints, may come to share forever in the glory of your risen life.

God of love, hear of our prayer.

Almighty God, You have promised to hear our prayers.

Grant that what we have asked in faith we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Year’s Mind Anniversaries this month:

Labyrinth Message

This week's labyrinth message for you to "walk with" is : Estrangement and Reconciliation are such tough issues for us all … they literally cut to our hearts.

In this week's Gospel, Jesus tells the story of the Prodigal Son / Tale of 2 Brothers … most of us at some point may play at least one or more of the roles of Father, Prodigal or Loyal Son more than once during our lifetimes. I wonder which role you may find yourself playing this week? Are there any folks who await your forgiveness and open hand of reconciliation? Do you need to seek this from another(s)? Are you feeling "slighted" and undervalued by the / acceptance or reconciliation by another(s)? Jesus leaves the story "mid-tale" and invites us to write the ending for ourselves. Will the Loyal Son / whole family be fully reconciled? I wonder what this week's" ending" will be for you?
