Fifth Sunday
in Lent
Sentence
Those who go out weeping, bearing the seed for sowing,
shall come home with shouts of joy, carrying their sheaves. Psalm 126.6
Collect Fifth Sunday in Lent
O God,
the Redeemer of all who trust in you:
heed the cry of your people,
and deliver us from the bondage of sin,
that we may serve you in perfect freedom
and rejoice in your unfailing love;
through Jesus Christ our Saviour,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Prayer for Tom to be Commissioned 21st April @ 7pm
God our Shepherd,
we thank you for calling The Rev’d Dr Tom Hunton
to serve in the Parish of Tamborine Mountain as Priest-in-Charge.
Uphold Tom and his family as they prepare to re-locate;
and prepare us to receive and welcome them.
Equip and strengthen Tom for his ministry and leadership in the years ahead.
Enable him to be among us as one who
Preaches the Gospel with conviction,
Administers the Sacraments with reverence
and cares for your people with love,
that together we might `go for growth’
and bring forth the fruit of your Spirit in all we do;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN.
Liturgy: via PowerPoint + APBA Colour – Purple
Readings: Isaiah 43.16-21 Ps 126; Philippians 3.3-14; John 12.1-8
Fr Peter writes:
Lent is drawing to a close and regardless of how we have prepared or attention turns towards celebrating the hope we have in Jesus. Isaiah 43.16-21 reminds us that God provides and Philippians 3.3-14 reminds us not to trust in the flesh but in what we have in Christ. John 12.1-8 records Mary and Martha inviting Jesus to dinner to thank him for bringing their brother Lazarus back to life. In that context Mary anoints Jesus’ feet with costly perfumed ointment and the fragrance filled the house.
Judas responds thinking of his own interests whereas the others focus on Jesus.
Liturgically we move forward reviewing our own focus and preparing for Palm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week.
Are we ready? To celebrate the holy mysteries of Easter? To see ourselves as dead to sin and alive to God through Christ? To renew our baptism promises again? Jesus has been with us over the last month and he will not leave us.
Yours in the household of God,
Peter+
Fr Peter will be in the parish Thursday, Saturday and Sunday this week

Prayers of the people Prepared by Anne
Gracious and merciful God, you have promised rest to the weary and relief to the heavy laden: hear the prayers we bring for your people.
Lord God we pray for our world-wide Anglican Communion, and especially our Diocese of Brisbane. We pray for Philip our Archbishop and John our regional bishop, for Fr. Peter our locum and Rev. Tom our new priest in charge that they may lead us faithfully. We pray for our congregation of St. Luke’s and St. George’s that you may bind us in love and form us in the likeness of Jesus our Lord.
In faith we pray, we pray to you our God.
Creator God, as we pray for your world, we ask that you take from us all hatred and prejudice. Give us your spirit of love for all people whatever their race or creed. Heavenly Father, in Ukraine we pray for all who have lost loved ones, those who have been forced to leave their homes and people who continue to live in fear of the atrocities of war. We ask you to give strength and courage to the leaders of all nations involved, so that they work tirelessly to find a peaceful end to this and other conflicts around the world. In a moment of silence, please pray for any country that you are concerned about today……
In faith we pray, we pray to you our God.
Almighty God, we pray for our local community. We ask that each of us will make use of the individual talents you have provided, to enable each church group in our Parish to flourish as a witness to you, so that we can serve our friends and neighbours who are in need…. In a moment of silence, please pray for any aspect of life in our local community that is on your mind today……..
In faith we pray, we pray to you our God.
Loving God, we ask for your healing touch on all who are ill or suffering in body, mind or spirit. We especially pray for anybody we know who is experiencing emotional pain, or is broken in spirit, because of personal or family problems. In a moment of silence please pray for anyone that you know who needs God’s help…… ..Almighty God, we ask you to draw close to all of those mentioned so that they may be aware of your healing presence, and we ask you to provide your peace and comfort for them at this time.
In faith we pray, we pray to you our God.
Father God, send us out into the world, renewed by our worship and strengthened by our fellowship, so that we may be a witness to the Gospel of your son Jesus Christ and bring healing and reconciliation to our wounded world.
Merciful Father, accept these prayers in the name of your Son,
our Risen Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

Labyrinth Message
This week's labyrinth message for you to "walk with" is : How do you react when we see someone giving 110% for Jesus? Do you urge caution? Feel embarrassed? Congratulate them? In this week's Gospel, Jesus accepts Mary's extravagant / way over the top gift of unconditional love and then commends [and defends] her from the criticism of others. Do we sometimes criticise or act in a way that belittles others gifting and enthusiasm for God? I wonder what can we do this week to encourage faithful generosity in ourselves and others?
