 Sentence

God has destined us for adoption as his children through Jesus Christ,

to the praise of his glorious grace that he freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.

Ephesians 1.15–16

 Almighty God,

you have filled us with the light of the Word,

who became flesh and lived among us:

let the light of faith shine in all that we do;

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Fr Peter writes:

On this the Second Sunday after Christmas we read John’s  gospel account of Jesus coming to earth. All the readings are full of joy, hope and expectations which tie into the secular calendar and our entry into 2022.

Our reading from Jeremiah 31.7-14 describes a people returning to the promised land and the new order from exile. Psalm 147.12-20 describes the joy of a people blessed by God. Paul writes to the Ephesians (1.3-14) describing them a a people blessed by God. They and we are reminded that ’When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession – to the praise of his glory’.

We have great potential as we begin 2022 but will we hold onto what God is doing in and through us?

Jesus came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. (John 1.11-12)

Choose Christ. May you be a blessing to others in 2022.

Yours in the household of God,

    Peter+

Meditation - a weekly thought  Fight

The feast of the Holy Innocents is a reminder that we fight the same fight Jesus was born into. The fight against evil is a good fight, a timeless fight. Like Jesus, we fight with our hearts and minds, our prayers, our love, our vows and our will. We enlist with our baptismal covenant and are reinforced daily by the communion of saints and the power of the Holy Spirit.

Labyrinth Message

This week's labyrinth message for you to "walk with" is : Can you believe that it is already 2 -1- 22? Where did 2021 go ? As you reflect upon the past year with its blessings and challenges … I wonder what you feel God is calling you towards in this fresh new year ?

The Gospel for this week contains the Apostle John's shining hymn of praise to the Divine Jesus  .. but juxtaposed with the example of John the Baptist whose life and legacy was to simply introduce / point folks towards his Lord and Saviour. I wonder if our calling for this year is somehow to do likewise ?

Prayers of the people  Prepared by John N

This is the day that the Lord has made...Let us rejoice and be glad in it. (Ps 118:4)

As we look back on 2021 and forward to 2022, let us thank God for all his gifts to us during the past year, so many of which we just take for granted.  We thank God for his continual guidance in our lives: so much could have gone wrong but didn’t, and so much went right which may not have done. Let us  pray for this guidance to continue in 2022.

Lord, in your mercy.... Hear our prayer.

We thank God for the wonders of the creation in which we live, for the stars above, the lands and seas around us, and for all the living creatures which share God’s creation with us. Help us to preserve all the beauties and resources of the world for those who will come after us. We pray for so many who are obliged to live in  overcrowded and polluted areas around the mega cities of the world, who have no hope ever of escaping from those conditions. Lord, in your mercy.... Hear our prayer.

We thank God for the worldwide Anglican Communion of which we are members, and particularly we thank God for the life of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who was an inspiration to so many. We pray for our Archbishop Philip, our Bishop John, our locum priest Peter and our future priest Tom and his family. We pray for our church council and all who donate their time and efforts to keep our parish running.

Lord, in your mercy.... Hear our prayer.

We thank God for the peace and prosperity in which we live here in Australia and pray for so many places around the world where there is conflict and civil strife. We pray for those who live under corrupt and incompetent governments, where there is no access to fair justice, no freedom of speech, basic or non-existent medical facilities, and where they are condemned to live lives of poverty unless they pay for dangerous and perhaps unsuccessful means of transport to a better world, even though they may not be welcome if they do arrive.

Lord, in your mercy.... Hear our prayer.

We thank God for our health and strength and pray for all who at this time are unable to live their normal lives through illness, accident or infirmity. We pray for all who are affected by the Covid pandemic, those who have lost loved ones, those who have lost their jobs and  livelihoods, those who are unable to visit friends and relatives because of restrictions, and all who work in hospitals, clinics, vaccination and testing centres, and all whose plans for holidays have been destroyed by cancelled flights or other unforeseen circumstances.   Particularly today we pray for.........and those whom we name aloud or in the silence of our heart.

Lord, in your mercy.... Hear our prayer

We give thanks for the lives of all those who have been influential in our lives but are no longer with us, particularly those whose Year’s Mind occurs at this time.

Almighty God, you have promised to hear our prayers, Grant that what we have asked in faith, we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord,  Amen

School Chaplaincy on Tamborine Mountain and in Canungra

School chaplains support young people in one of today’s most high pressure environments – the schoolyard. SU QLD chaplains provide a safe, positive influence for our children as well as caring for staff and families. For many families the school is the community they turn to when in trouble and it is the chaplain who usually gives the pastoral support needed.

Child Protection Training

All parishioners who hold Blue Cards for their roles in church activities are required to undertake ACSQ Child Protection Training every three years. The next date this will be run for a group in the parish is Saturday 15th January, 9.30am at St Luke’s. Alternately you can work through the training online at Child Protection Policy Training — Anglican Church Southern Queensland (anglicanchurchsq.org.au) . Should you choose to do the training online please forward you certificate to the parish office on completion

Reports for AGM#2

Reports for the AGM#2 are requested to be forwarded to the parish office by Tuesday 1st February so they can be distributed on Sunday 6th February, one week prior to the meeting.
