WHY SING?
This week I went out for a coffee and the Noisy Miner, that you can see on the front cover of this notice sheet, decided to join me and sing loudly! It was like that awkward situation when you’re in a restaurant and the management have employed musicians to wander around each table playing their music. I didn’t know whether I was supposed to continue my conversation or give him my undivided attention. But of course, as it’s 2022, what I actually did was pick up my phone and take a photo!
He, or she (I’m sure one of you will tell me which!) was obviously after a bit of banana bread but also just enjoying a good sing. Maybe it was communicating with some other unseen birds (I don’t speak Minerese so I don’t know) but it seemed to me that it was just singing because it could; God made it that way and it was enjoying its gift.
All three of our church services involve singing. The style varies somewhat between the morning services and the afternoon service, the musical accompaniment varies at all three services, and some might even say the tunefulness of the singers varies at each service! However the intention is always the same – we sing because we want to express our love for God and our devotion to God’s kingdom.
Is it vital to faith? No, the God who calls us to worship doesn’t need our praise like a supernatural power station feeding on the energy of worship. God’s existence surpasses our understanding but so does God’s love for us. We sing cos that can often be our best way of displaying that we want to return that love.
We sing because we can. Just like that Noisy Miner, God made us that way.
Tom
NOTICES…
St Luke’s Undressing Monday 31st 4.00pm
It’s time to return St Luke’s to normal. Her pretty pink decorations need to be packed away for next year. We are leaving it to the last minute in the hope of getting more votes on Sunday. If you can spare the time on Monday afternoon, after Little Lukies, ‘many hands will make light work’ and it will be done in no time. There is a photo in the gallery on our website if you haven’t had a chance to visit in person. https://tamborinemtandcanungraanglican.com/gallery
Lions Working Bee for St George’s Gardens–Saturday 5th November 9.00am
The Lions Mountain Mates have offered to do some gardening at St George’s to say thank you for the use of our facilities for their program. This will take place on Saturday 5th November to tidy the grounds prior to our Christmas Markets. If you are interested in assisting, please contact Peta or Sonya (in the office).
This week’s intercessions: Prepared by Barbara
Almighty God, we pray for your Church worldwide, for people everywhere keeping faith in You and your guidance. May we give hope where it is needed especially for First Nation people. Bless all in leadership roles, Phillip, John and Tom and our retired priests John, Allan and Keith in their ongoing roles in our church. Bless and guide all of us in the pews to keep faith, kindness and compassion reaching out to our communities in Canungra and on the mountain.
Bless and guide our local council and its members and those of our federal government.
Loving God, hear our prayer.
God of creation, we give grateful thanks for the beauty of the earth and for the privilege to live and move and have our being amongst the trees and flowers, birds and insects and all manner of wildlife. May we love and care for it as You do. Prick our conscience when we damage it, show us how to preserve it, in kindness and love.
Loving God, hear our prayer.
Heavenly Father, we pray that we, in our older age, may help Tom to encourage young families to fill our church. Lord, God of our lives, you already know how hard it is and we know you are there helping us if only we remember. May we keep faith in You.
Thank you for the flourishing Monday group at St. Luke's and all volunteering to lead and be there. We pray for John Corner who never gives up on the Little people at St. George's.
Loving God, hear our prayer.
Almighty God, we pray for the sick and the dying and all selfless people caring for them.
We think of our own loved ones and those who work hard and take rest to recover. Give them the rest and peace they deserve. We pray for all who have asked for our prayers who we name aloud or quietly in our hearts.........................
Loving God, hear our prayer.
Eternal God, we give grateful thanks for those who have guided us on our faith journeys but have gone to your eternal presence. May we carry on their example.
You have promised to hear those who pray in the name of your Son.
Grant that what we have asked in faith we may obtain according to your will, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Tamborine Mountain Carol Service – Friday 25th November
Last year the churches together in Tamborine Mountain put on a carol service at the conference centre, it was a great success and it’s happening again! On the afternoon/evening of Friday November 25th (Time TBC)
As well as the carol service there is a meal and we have been asked to provide cookies for everyone. We essentially need to bake 500 cookies for that Friday, so we need a few bakers! There will be a sign-up sheet at the back of church over the next couple of weeks, please volunteer if you can!
A Christmas Gift to People in Outback Towns
As, we did last year, we can once again contribute to the cost of Christmas sweets to be sent to people in outback regional towns in Qld. Pam McHardy makes small boxes from recycled Christmas cards, filling them with sweets for people who may not receive anything else for Christmas. They are delivered to nursing homes, schools, parishes etc and will have a note saying St.George's Anglican Church have contributed . Last year we received a personal letter of thanks from one recipient who was very grateful. A donation box is located on the entry table at St George’s.
