MOVING ON
It is with real sadness and regret that I inform you that this week I communicated with Bishop John and Archbishop Phillip and gave notice of my intention to resign from the role of parish priest in the parish of Tamborine Mountain.
There are several reasons for this, but the predominant issue has been that my family and I have found it difficult to settle in the rectory. I have been speaking with the church council and the diocese for a while about issues surrounding privacy, noise, lack of potable water, lack of ceiling fans and air-conditioning. I spoke with the diocese about the possibility of renting accommodation elsewhere, but this has not proved possible and after a lot of thought and prayer I have come to this decision.
My final service will be on January 1st and later in that month we shall fly back to England.
This was not what we envisioned when we committed to move out here, I am truly sorry to be leaving the parish and thank you for the support and encouragement I have received from so many of you.
I appreciate there will be a range of emotions amongst our congregations about this news; To those who may be disappointed or upset I am truly sorry but please know that this was a really difficult decision to make, and I would really appreciate any prayers you may feel able to offer for my family and I as we look towards an uncertain future. Please know that I am praying for all of you and for the two churches of this parish in the days and months ahead.
Tom
NOTICES…
Tamborine Mountain Carol Service – Friday 25th November
The churches together in Tamborine Mountain are once again putting on a carol service at the conference centre on the afternoon/evening of Friday November 25th (Time TBC) As well as the carol service there is a meal and we have been asked to provide cookies for everyone. We essentially need to bake 500 cookies for that Friday, so we need a few bakers! There will be a sign-up sheet at the back of church over the next couple of weeks, please volunteer if you can!
Quiet Day - Saturday 26th November
Do you perhaps need to take some time to draw breath in the busy lead up to Christmas? It is good to get away from everyday routines and rest in silence and stillness. St George's Meditation Group are inviting anyone of faith or no faith to a Quiet Day of reflection and prayerful silence. We welcome all to come and just BE... be yourself, the person God meant you to be. Please contact Barbara for more info and to let her know of you plan to attend. 0497 016 178.
This week’s intercessions: Prepared by Jan A
Loving God, we thank you for the wonder and beauty of your creation. Especially we thank you for the beauty of the area in which we live. We thank you for the refreshing rain and cooler weather this week as we are reminded of the offerings of each changing season. Thankyou dear God that as Spring fades into the warmer months of Summer, we can once again delight in the pleasures that each new season brings.
For your love and goodness, we give you thanks, O God.
Loving God, thankyou that you always keep your promises. You have promised that all who trust in you will share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. We pray that we may stand firm in our faith as we show your love and understanding to one another. Strengthen those who guide us in this time. We pray for Archbishop Phillip, Bishop John, Reverend Tom and those retired clergy in our congregations who continue to daily serve you and your people. Centre our hearts on your teachings to lead us forward in your will. May the Holy Spirit be alive in our hearts and minds each day.
For your love and goodness, we give you thanks, O God.
Loving God, you know the heart and needs of each person in our wider community. Guide and equip each of us to show your love and concern for each one. Help us to be still and hear your voice guiding us. We thank you Father God that in caring for those in need we may be a witness for your love. We thank you for all those who work with children and their families each week in our parish and community activities.
For your love and goodness, we give you thanks, O God.
Loving God, as you weep with those who weep and are in need, we pray especially for all who are physically sick or suffering. Give physical and spiritual strength to those who care for them. Use each of us, we pray, to ease the burdens of those around us.
For your love and goodness, we give you thanks, O God.
Loving God, we thank you for the lives which have been lived to your honour and glory, for those who have witnessed of your infinite love and now are with you for eternity. We pray for your comfort to be with the families of those whose yearly remembrance occurs at this time. We thank you for the sure and certain knowledge that in your time we will join with those who have gone before us to praise and worship you forever.
For your love and goodness, we give you thanks, O God.
You are our God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Grant that what we have asked for in faith we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen

Archbishop’s 2022 November Appeal - Newton Theological College
Newton is the only college which trains people for priestly ministry in the Anglican Church in Papua New Guinea. It has made recent improvements to some of its buildings and expanded from its three-year course for ordinands to include a bridging course for those who have not completed the necessary Year 12 qualification to enter Newton College. Many of the students come from the highlands. Newton has also long had a vibrant training course for ordinands’
spouses and for the first time this year, men and women have been
studying alongside each other. But the College desperately needs funds to help it to keep operating and to ensure its operations meet new government standards for tertiary institutions.
Christmas Markets 3rd December How can you help?
Sweet Treats The Christmas theme of our markets this year is a perfect excuse to create those sweet treats reserved for this special time of year …white Christmas, rum balls, glacé cherries dipped in chocolate….. Can you supply any of these for our stall?
Decorations We are still in need of donations of tinsel to decorate the stalls.
