PARISH BULLETIN
5th December 2021
Second Sunday of
Advent
Sentence for the Day
By the tender mercy of our God, the dawn from on high will break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Luke 1.78–79
Collect
God of our salvation,
you straighten the winding ways of our hearts
and smooth the paths made rough by sin:
keep our hearts watchful in holiness,
and bring to perfection the good you have begun in us.
We ask this through him whose coming is certain,
whose Day draws near, your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Prayer for our New Parish Priest
We give you thanks, O God
for calling your servant Fr Tom to come amongst us as priest and pastor.
Strengthen and sustain him as he prepares for this transition.
Be with us as we welcome him into our midst,
that we may faithfully minister together
in the name of the one who said to his disciples,
‘I am among you as one who serves’,
our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
Liturgy: via PowerPoint + APBA Colour – Purple
Readings: Malachi 3.1-14 Song of Zechariah Philippians 1.1-11 Luke 3.1-6
Fr Peter writes:
Peace be with you as we light our second Advent Candle. The prophet Malachi reminds us that when the Lord comes we are purified from wrongdoing. When Paul and Timothy wrote to the saints in Philippi they praised them for the work of Jesus in them and prayed that their love would overflow more and more in their decisions and their actions. The Gospel reading for today records the proclamation of John the Baptist to prepare the way of the Lord in our lives.
The Labyrinth Message below may help us do that.
Let us walk together on our Advent journey of preparation for the coming of Christ!

Labyrinth Message
This week's labyrinth message for you to "walk with" is: How is your "wheel of life" rolling along at the moment? Are you in balance… or is it a bit "lumpy" with some aspects of life being "overworked" and some moribund ? … oh and by the way ..what or who is at the centre of your wheel? .. the fulcrum around which you turn? .. Who is providing the motive power? Is it your ego .. or God?
The Gospel for this week reminds us that "Every Valley [ our doubt, despair, and lack of self worth ] shall be filled and every mountain [ our pride, goals and achievements ] brought low; the crooked made straight and the rough ways smooth [ our way morphing into His way ] and all flesh shall see the salvation of God". I wonder how God will be moulding you, and your way through life this week?

Name Badges
Please remember to wear name badges. We all have a memory block sometimes so they can often get us out of trouble! And of course they are very useful to help Fr Peter get to know us better.
Parish AGM #1
We will be holding the first part of the Parish AGM at St George’s on Sunday 19th December. Nominations need to be with Fr Peter by COB Friday 17th December. Nomination forms are on the entry table.
Prayers of the people Prepared by Peta
Your messenger Isaiah foretold:
The root of Jesse shall come,
The one to rule the Gentiles;
In him the Gentiles shall hope.
God of hope, on this second Sunday of Advent, we prepare for the coming of your son, Jesus Christ. Fill us with all joy and peace in believing, and hear the prayers we bring before you:
We pray for your church and for Christians everywhere preparing for your coming.
We pray for the Queen; for Justin, Archbishop of Canterbury; for our Archbishop, Philip and Regional Bishop, John; for our locum Priest Fr Peter, and for your servants John and Alan. We pray for Fr Tom and his family in UK. We pray for our wardens and Parish Council, and all who do your will in this place.
Fill us with all joy and peace in believing.
We pray for the wellbeing of the world which sustains us and for thoughtful decisions about its future.
Fill us with all joy and peace in believing.
We pray that all people and nations have fair access to the earth’s resources and opportunities, including access to vaccines. We pray for those deprived of safety, shelter, food and fresh water, and for those fleeing deprivation to seek a better life. Open our hearts to the needs of others.
Fill us with all joy and peace in believing.
We pray for refreshment for school children and educators as the school year ends, and for young people leaving school and embarking on adult lives. We pray for our friends and neighbours and those in our community enduring poverty and hardship, for those who are ill or dying, for those who are estranged from loved ones or alone, especially at Christmas time. Open our hearts to the needs of others; make us instruments of your will, offering friendship and support wherever we can. We pray especially for…. and for those known to us whom we name aloud or in the silence of our hearts… (a time of silent prayer).
Fill us with all joy and peace in believing.
We give thanks for Andrew, John the Baptist and all the saints and prophets, for the faithful departed, for those whose year’s mind occurs at this time, and for all whom we loved who have gone before us to be with you for eternity. Give your peace to all who mourn.
God of hope and peace, hear our prayers, and grant that what we have asked for in faith, we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Meditation - a weekly thought
"Welcome - reflection - God comes among us in the Christ-child, wonderful to celebrate. How have I experienced the welcome of God this year? And what practical ways can I welcome others in the name of God this Advent."
December Retiring Collection: Christmas Bowl
2021 was a year of turbulence and disruption. The COVID-19 pandemic continued to impact, with congregations again having to connect virtually, and much suffering.
The impact was not felt evenly, with the poorest among us hit hardest, especially the 82 million people in the world uprooted by conflict or disaster, and people caught up in the humanitarian crises caused by conflicts in Ethiopia, Myanmar, Gaza and Afghanistan.
In the midst of this division and chaos, the Christmas Bowl is a vital channel for expressing our unity in Christ. It provides a powerful mechanism for sharing God’s love, with those who need it, through practical Christian action.
