PARISH BULLETIN

8th May 2022

The Fourth Sunday of

Easter

Sentence for the Day

The Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd,

and will guide them to springs of the water of life,

and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.

 Revelation 7.17

Collect

Gracious God,

you sent Jesus, the good shepherd,

to gather us together:

may we not wander from his flock,

but follow wherever he leads us,

listening for his voice and staying near him,

until we are safely in your fold,

to live with you for ever;

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Liturgy:  via PowerPoint + APBA   Colour – White

Readings: Acts 9.36-43;    Psalm 23;     Revelation 7.9-17;  John 10.22-30

We acknowledge and pay respect to the people of the Yugambeh Language Group,

the traditional custodians of this land on which we gather.

 A note from Tom:

The key role of a parish priest is to point people to Jesus. That includes the people who gather within the church buildings on a regular basis but also those who do not.

I have been so pleased to observe the joy and faithfulness of both our congregations when it comes to our Sunday worship and I really want to do all I can to continue pointing people to Jesus through those cherished services.

However, as I say, we also need to think about those who don’t regularly attend services. When I was appointed to this parish it was made clear to me that a big priority is to become more accessible to families and younger generations so, with that in mind, we are going to start something new.

From next week, Sunday 15th May, we will be running a weekly ‘Informal All-Age Service’ on Sundays at 4pm at St George’s. This will be in addition to the 8am and 9.30am Sunday services but will replace the current 5pm Saturday service.

I believe this new time and day would be the most suitable one for families and I prayerfully believe that an informal style with contemporary worship music and little written liturgy can appeal to younger people and those who maybe don’t find it easy to step through the doors of church.

Whilst we would love young people to attend it will be truly all-age, so if you currently attend our Saturday service or Sunday service do come along and see if it’s for you!

Come along and give it a try! Better yet bring a friend too, and if you feel you would like to be a part of it (I will need help!) then come and see me.

Labyrinth Message

This week's labyrinth message for you to "walk with" is : There is so much noise in our lives … and so many voices are calling to us all of the time seeking our attention ….

In this week's Gospel, Jesus reminds us that those of His flock hear His voice… recognise it … and follow Him. But astoundingly … He knows each of us  … and he calls us by name. I wonder what He may be calling you to this week… ?

Prayers of the people  Prepared by Anne

Merciful Father, you gave your Son Jesus Christ to be the good Shepherd, and in his love for us to lay down his life and rise again.  Keep us always under his protection and give us grace to follow in his steps, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Lord our Father, we pray for all people who make up the church, both leaders and congregations, especially here at St. Luke’s and St. George’s.  We pray that those in positions of trust may honour and respect that trust.  We pray for unity among Christians, that they may work together to spread the word of hope in a world of despair.  We pray for unity among all people of faith throughout the world that they may respect each another’s beliefs and celebrate what they have in common.
Lord your rod and your staff comfort us, in your mercy,  hear our prayer

Heavenly Father, we give thanks for the fellowship of the communities in which we live and work.  We commend to your keeping ourselves and each other, our families, those with whom we work and live, our neighbours and our friends.  Enable us by your Spirit to live in love for you and for one another.

Lord your rod and your staff comfort us, in your mercy, hear our prayer

Risen Lord, we pray for a time when peace may come upon the earth.  We pray for people who are suffering as a result of war especially in Ukraine.  May the risen Christ lead them from despair into hope.  We pray for the earth, which has been lent to us for a short while to enjoy its gifts and to hand on in good order for generations to come, that all people may face the future with confidence.
Lord your rod and your staff comfort us, in your mercy, hear our prayer

Lord of love, we pray for all who suffer in mind or body and for those who care for them. We pray for the sick; for those who mourn; for those without faith, hope or love.
We pray for any known to us who are in special need of our prayers at this time, especially those known personally to us.  We remember them now in a moment of silence ….
Lord your rod and your staff comfort us, in your mercy, hear our prayer

The risen Christ is the light of the world, a light which cannot be extinguished.  We remember before God those who have died. Encourage us by their example, so that we may run with perseverance the race that lies before us, and share with them the fullness of joy in your kingdom. You turn our darkness into light: in your light shall we see light.

Almighty God, you have promised to hear our prayers.

Grant that what we have asked in faith we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.
