Sentence for the Day
The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. Mark 10:45
Collect
God of unchangeable power,
when the heaven and earth were made,
the morning stars sang together
and the host of heaven shouted for joy:
open our eyes to the wonders of creation
and teach us to use all things for good,
to the honour of your glorious name;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Intercessions: prepared by John Noble
Daily we see that wars and civil conflicts are continuing with no apparent end in sight and we see so much needless destruction of lives and properties in Gaza, Lebanon, Ukraine and the Sudan. Let us pray for leaders of the world as they seek ways to agree to ceasefires, and we pray for all those who provide water, food, medical supplies and other essentials for the lives of so many innocent people who have no homes and have lost everything since the wars started. Lord, in your mercy...Hear our prayer.
We live in an ever-changing world of mass communications, with so many organisations, social media and other users of the internet all clamouring for our attention and support. We pray for God’s guidance as we seek to distinguish between what is true and what is false, what is worthy and what is not, and we pray for innocent victims of internet financial scams, as the sad effects on them continue for so long. Lord, in your mercy...Hear our prayer.
We pray for all those involved in next week’s State election, and for those who will be elected, that they will always seek to keep the interests of those who elected them ahead of their own personal interests. Lord, in your mercy...Hear our prayer.
We pray for our church leaders as they seek ways to promote Christian values in a world which so often ignores what they propose. We pray for our Archbishop Jeremy, our Bishop John and our priest Helen, and all those who work in voluntary organisations providing help to those in need which is not provided by other sources. Lord, in your mercy...Hear our prayer.
We thank God for our health and strength and pray for all those who can no longer live as they would like, due to accident, illness or infirmity. We remember places of healing and treatment and those who work there, that they will care for their patients with compassion and understanding. Today we pray for.... and any others who need our prayers at this time. Lord, in your mercy...Hear our prayer
We give thanks for the lives of those whose year’s mind occurs at this time, and particularly for Gwen Curtis. Almighty God, you have promised you hear our prayers, Grant that what we have asked in faith, we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord
Year’s Mind Anniversaries this month:

A note from Helen
We continue with the saga of Job. Job has endured the absence of God and God had endured the rantings of Job. Finally, out of a whirlwind, God speaks. And in this multisensory event, God reveals the universe in all its complexity. In this divine encounter, we can imagine that Job not only hears God’s voice, but also catches a glimpse of the world’s beginnings and hears the sounds of the universe as it evolved. The revealed God is more than Job can imagine. We can only see a portion of God’s handiwork, the tapestry of creation’s unfolding and God’s vision is beyond our comprehension. God’s creativity has a moral element to it. God parents a universe of order and beauty, within which pain and suffering can occur. These are the inevitable aspects of an evolving, imperfect, and finite universe, in which creatures are often at cross purposes. Awe inspires praise. The grandeur of the universe evokes a sense of radical amazement in us. But the best we can manage is a stammered ‘How great thou art’. Creation reflects God’s aim at beauty and goodness. And our Psalm continues the meditation on divine grandeur. Amazement and gratitude fill our hearts when we ponder life’s wonder and immensity.

A message from Anglicare.
At Christmas we celebrate Jesus, hope of the world, born in a lowly manger. Christmas is a time for giving, a time for reflection and a time for hope. By donating a gift this year, you can help make Christmas bright for one of Anglicare’s clients. You can let them know they are not alone. Look at the list on the notice board and select what you would like to donate and where you can drop it off or bring it to the office and we will ensure it is ‘dropped off’. Please note, all gifts must be labelled, ‘Anglicare Southern Queensland’, brand new, unopened and unused and unwrapped, or wrapped in clear cellophane so contents are visible.
