Sentence for the Day

In returning and rest you shall be saved;

in quietness and trust shall be your strength. Isaiah 30:16

Collect

Eternal God,

you draw near to us in Christ

and make yourself our guest:

amid the cares of our daily lives,

make us attentive to your voice

and alert to your presence,

that we may treasure your

word above all else.

We ask this through our Lord

Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

God for ever and ever.

Amen.

Commitment Collect

Generous God,

whose hand is open to fill all things living with plenteousness:

make us ever thankful

for your goodness,

and grant that we,

remembering the account that we must one day give,

may be faithful stewards

of your bounty; through

Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Readings: Amos 8:1-12; Psalm 52; Colossians 1:15-29;

      Luke:10:38-42

We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh language region, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today

Pew Reflection

Our readings this week join the cosmic and the local, the macro and the micro, divine universality and the divine intimacy, and faith and justice. The letter to the Colossians affirms that Christ is the Life of All Things and Each Thing, creating in us and with us, and calling us to abundant life and creative transformation for ourselves and all creation.  Today is Commitment Sunday, when we offer to God our commitment for the coming year.  But our commitment needs to be more than just monetary, Let us all, together, consider ‘what is the hope for the future that this Parish offers.  What hope does it offer you.  What hope does it offer the community.  How will the parish be able to fulfil this hope, what will it take?  How is this hope reflected in my offer of commitment.

Thought provoker:

Am I ready/able to give an answer to why I ‘serve in love and hope’

How will my offering, or commitment help this parish to serve this community and the wider community in love and hope.

Thank you for your commitment made today, may it bless the community and the parish.

Intercessions:  prepared by Keith Slater

Gracious God, as we seek to live in the way of Christ, empower us to be living examples  of your love with all whom we meet.

Generous God: we offer ourselves afresh to you.

Giving God, we give you thanks for your Church throughout the world: for the appointment of a new Archbishop of Canterbury; for Jeremy, our Archbishop; for John our Bishop and Helen our priest, and for all who bear witness to the Good News of Jesus.

Generous God: we offer ourselves afresh to you.

Creator God, we give you thanks for your creation and for the provision of our needs. We pray for our careful and equitable sharing of this creation; for the living of just lives; for the recognition of the integrity of each other; and for our living together in peace and harmony.

Generous God: we offer ourselves afresh to you.

Loving God, we offer our thanks for the communities in which we live and share your love.

Generous God: we offer ourselves afresh to you.

Gracious God, today, mindful of your boundless love we make our financial offering to you and your ministry in this Parish and community:

(There will be an extended pause. We are invited to come forward and place our Commitment Card in the offering basket before the altar.)

Gracious God, in this commitment we make the offering of ourselves to you.

Generous God: we offer ourselves afresh to you.

Compassionate God, we hold before you today all those who are in need, those whom we know and whom we name aloud ….. or in the silence of our hearts.

Generous God: we offer ourselves afresh to you.

Eternal God, we give thanks for all who have gone before us and who have washed the feet of others offering themselves to you in your love.

Loving generous God: we offer ourselves afresh to you this day, through Jesus Christ our Lord, and empowered by the Holy Spirit. Amen.
