Sentence for the Day

I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents. Luke 15:10

Collect

Undaunted you seek the lost,

O God, exultant you bring home the found:

touch our hearts with grateful wonder at the tenderness of your forbearing love; grant us delight in the mercy that has found us; and bring all to rejoice at the feast of forgiven sinners.

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen.

Season of Creation Collect

Lord you call us to be peacemakers; to be people abiding in peaceful habitation.

May our fruitful fields be seen as forests, and your spirit pour upon us so that the righteous may be at peace and the wilderness become a fruitful field.

May your Spirit be poured upon us so we can work together for peace with Creation.

Amen

Readings: Job 39:1-8, 26-30; Psalm 104:14-23;

      1 Corinthians 1:10-23; Luke 12:22-31

We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh language region, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today.

Pew Reflection:

How often do we ‘blame’ God for bad weather events, for things going wrong in our lives, for world events, and probably for a lot more too.  Why do we think that God is doing the ‘wrong thing’ by us just because circumstances don’t go our way.   Our readings today revolve around ‘calming the storm’, be it personal angst, or community unrest.   Job is challenged by God about who it is that both created and has care of the wild creatures of the world.  Paul’s letter to the Corinthians reveals the ‘tension’ of community disharmony when everyone, and no one, wants to be ‘in charge’. And Luke reports Jesus’ message on the importance of trusting God’s provision.  We may have concerns about world affairs, about our personal circumstances, about the state of climate change, but all those things are ‘bigger than me’ and worrying about them will not change them, it will only leave me feeling less and less happy.  But if I am able to ‘give it over’ to God; to ‘trust’ the God who created the universe that all these things are within God’s ability to manage and care for, then my worrying can be allayed and I can be assured that, although nothing may appear to be changing (quickly) it is being cared for and managed by the only one who can make a difference’.

Intercessions:  prepared by Keith Slater

Gracious God, in a world of strife and violence we seek to be bearers of your kingdom of love and compassion.

We pray today for the well-being of your creation. We pray that we as stewards may be sensitively aware of conserving the wonders of your creation.

Gracious God: we seek your kingdom

We pray for the many who are displaced in the world of today - praying especially for those in this country that are left uncertain in the midst of visa requirements. We pray for wisdom in dealing with these issues of the care of humanity.

Gracious God: we seek your kingdom

We pray for the church: for this diocese and this parish community as we seek to be positive signs of your love within the wider community - and in our relationships with one another.

Gracious God: we seek your kingdom

We pray for those who are cast aside; those who are terrified; those who are depressed; those who are sick or suffering. Today we pray for ……….. and for those known to us.

Gracious God: we seek your kingdom

We pray for and give thanks for those who have been examples of love and compassion in our journey through life.

Gracious God: we seek your kingdom

Accept our prayers through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Season of Creation 2025 -  Peace with Creation

From the Most Rev’d Hosam E Naoum

Anglican Archbishop in Jerusalem:

Dear Christians from across the globe and across communities, I greet you from Jerusalem the city of the Resurrection, with a special invitation to join the Season of Creation! In the midst of violence and as war continues in this holy land, we pray for peace, justice and love to unite peoples. We pray for peace in the city of Jerusalem, for people in the Holy Land and for peace in the world. Season of Creation is the annual Christian celebration to pray and respond together to the cry of Creation: the ecumenical family around the world unites especially during this season to listen and care for our common home. This season begins 1 September, the Feast of Creation, and ends 4 October, the Feast of St Francis of Assisi, named the patron saint of those who care for Ecology by the Roman Catholic Church and beloved by many Christian denominations. This year as humans wage war on each other and on creation we will unite around the theme, “Peace with Creation.”
