Sentence for the Day
The stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone;
this was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes.
Matthew 21.42
Collect of the Day
Almighty God,
your Son Jesus was the stone rejected by the builders,
and, by your doing,
he has been made the chief cornerstone:
grant that, by the power of his Spirit working in us,
we may become living stones
built up into your dwelling place,
a temple holy and acceptable to you;
through Jesus Christ, our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you
and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Liturgy: via PowerPoint + APBA Colour – Green
Readings:
Exodus 20.1-4,7-9,12-20; Psalm 19; Philippians 3.4b-14; Matthew 21.33-46
We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh language region, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today.
A note from Helen
Violence that begets violence is not the way. It may seem like it is the ‘go-to’ for our society. It may seem like these are the rules of how society works – if you hurt me, I will hurt you more. But that does not work. That will never work. And in today’s gospel, the Chief Priests and Pharisees may think that the right answer to Jesus’ question is ‘repay violence with violence’ but their answer only condemns themselves. But we need to be careful about condemning these leaders, while seeing ourselves ‘removed’ or ‘distanced’ from the equation. Because we fall into this trap as often as they do. We do not easily respond to violence with love or patience or acceptance, we do not easily ignore those who throw daggers our way, and we do not find it easy to ‘forgive’ as we ‘are forgiven’. Jesus’ death and resurrection offer us the possibility of peace, and we need to hold on to that possibility and do all in our power to make that possibility a reality as often as we can.

Plants.
Thank you to all who have provided us with screening plants for the rectory fence line on the Church side. Now we just need to get them into the ground. Peta has kindly arranged for holes to be dug, so I will soon call for a ‘team’ to decide where the plants would best be situated. If you are interested please let me know.
Tamborine Mountain Scarecrow Festival.
Do you have any suggestions for what our Scarecrow could be. We would like to continue the ‘season of creation’ theme. Come join us in making our scarecrow on Wednesday 25 Oct. Share your suggestions with Kristy or Helen.

We praise you O God, we acknowledge you to be the Lord. In our thoughts, words and deeds, may we always give you the love and respect you deserve. Your love is never failing, your heart is open to us, your presence never leaves us, strengthen our faith, deepen our love for you and keep us in your ways. Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Holy Father, bless our church that it may reveal your love, let us be an open and accepting church, forgiving and sensitive. Let us be loving and understanding that your church may reflect your love for the world. We give thanks for all ordained ministers of the church, in our Diocese, in our parish, Bp John, Revs Helen, John and Allan. May they press on through all upsets and difficulties, knowing you are always available. Bless our parish council members as plans are made for our Christmas Markets. Bless those who are involved in Children’s Ministry, all who use our hall from our community.
Lord our Redeemer, have mercy on us.
Lord, comfort all who are having difficulties in their relationships, all who find it hard to make friends, all who have been betrayed or deserted by a loved one. We remember all who have to face violence in their homes or at work. And we pray for all who cannot trust the people around them. We give thanks and pray for Firies and SES personnel engaged in helping to safety people in danger of fires and floods. Keep them safe from harm. And we pray for all who have lost their homes and livelihoods. Help us to care for creation which you made for us.
Lord our Redeemer, have mercy on us.
Lord in our dealings with one another, teach us to listen, teach us to forgive, to love and understand. Give us courage to forget past sins and look ahead.
We pray for our friends and loved ones and those who have asked for our prayers who we name aloud or in the silence of our hearts…………………….Bless them.
Lord our Redeemer, have mercy on us.
God of love, give strength to all from broken homes, where there is little help or understanding and for all families needing help and attention. We pray and give thanks for faithful family members and friends who have kept your law and commandments and guided us on our spiritual journeys, for spiritual directors and those who are with us no longer and live with you in heavenly glory.
Almighty God, you have promised to hear our prayers. Grant that what we have asked in faith we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
