Palm Sunday

Sentence

At the name of Jesus, every knee shall bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Philippians 2.10–11

Collect Palm Sunday

Everlasting God,

in your tender love for the human race

you sent your Son to take our nature,

and to suffer death upon the cross:

in your mercy enable us to share in his obedience to your will

and in the glorious victory of his resurrection;

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Prayer for Tom to be Commissioned 21st April @ 7pm

God our Shepherd,

            we thank you for calling The Rev’d Dr Tom Hunton

            to serve in the Parish of Tamborine Mountain as Priest-in-Charge.

Uphold Tom and his family as they prepare to re-locate;

            and prepare us to receive and welcome them.

Equip and strengthen Tom for his ministry and leadership in the years ahead.

Enable him to be among us as one who

            Preaches the Gospel with conviction,

            Administers the Sacraments with reverence

            and cares for your people with love,

that together we might `go for growth’

and bring forth the fruit of your Spirit in all we do;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.  AMEN.

Fr Peter writes: Passion (Palm) Sunday

In early times there were two liturgical celebrations on this Day: the Eucharist of the Day which commemorated the Passion of our Lord and, later in the day, a procession of all the people carrying palms in procession to the Great Church in Jerusalem for Vespers. As the years passed, these two different commemorations merged into one, and in some places the re-enactment of the 'Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem' took over in importance. Some communities have made this the main theme of the Day's liturgy and omitted the Passion reading altogether. It should be remembered, however, that it is not the entry into Jerusalem, but rather the Passion Reading that sets the major theme for the whole week (as is recognised in the Book of Common Prayer).

I invite you to enter into the liturgy and commit to walk the way of the cross, so that sharing his sufferings, we may be united with Jesus in his risen life.

Yours in the household of God,

Peter+

Fr Peter will be in the parish Thursday, Friday and Sunday this week

Labyrinth Message

This week's labyrinth message for you to "walk with" is : How do you react when you observe injury, need, injustice or oppression occurring right before you? Do you tend to "speak/ stand up", quietly support, stay silent, don't draw attention to yourself, move away … or do something else?

In this week's Gospel, we see graphically demonstrated how the disciples reacted to Jesus' trial and crucifixion - some hid, some despaired and some stood up.I wonder what we would have done in their place? How human/ understandable it is to prioritise self preservation and thus adopt a "small target strategy" in these circumstances…. particularly if you have others who rely upon you for daily support… yet sometimes just one person looking at things though "Heavens eyes" and making a stand can have a great impact. I wonder what choice[s] you will make this week?

 Prayers of the people   Prepared by John N

This is the day that the Lord has made ...Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Let us first thank God for the wonders of the world in which we live and give thanks for all forms of life which share God’s creation with us. May we remember that we are but guardians of this world for all those who will come after us and we should use its resources carefully and preserve all the beauties that we see around us.

Lord, in your mercy.... Hear our prayer.

We pray for the world wide Anglican Communion of which we are members, so many are worshipping God today in their own languages and with their own customs.

We pray for our Archbishop Philip, regional Bishop John and our locum priest Peter. (and particularly for our new priest Tom and his family as they prepare to leave their home and familiar surroundings to fly here and join us)

We pray for so many Christians around the world who are facing persecution and discrimination for professing their faith among hostile or indifferent surroundings.

Lord, in your mercy.... Hear our prayer.

We thank God for the peace and prosperity in which we live here in Australia and we  pray for all who are suffering in the Ukranian war, all who have lost loved ones, possessions and homes and have been forced into unwanted exile as refugees, and we pray for all who are working to relieve their distress and to keep families together wherever possible. We pray for other troubled areas where there is famine and destruction: Afghanistan, Yemen and for those working for relief agencies.

Lord, in your mercy.... Hear our prayer.

We thank God for our health and strength and pray for all who at this time are suffering long-term or short term illness. We pray for all who work in places of healing and treatment, doctors, nurses and other medical staff, particularly those who monitor and care for those in hospital with Covid infections, and we pray for all who are involved in the testing and vaccination programmes. We pray for  those who are known to us and have asked for our prayers.

Lord, in your mercy.... Hear our prayer.

We remember all those who have been affected by recent floods in Qld and NSW, all who have lost their homes and precious possessions and now have nowhere to live. We pray for our local communities, on the Mountain and around Canungra, all those who spend their lives providing us with our daily needs, in shops, offices, schools, and the emergency workers who are always on call to help us when needed.

Lord, in your mercy.... Hear our prayer.

We give thanks for the lives of those who have influenced us but are no longer with us, particularly ........

Almighty God, you have promised to hear or prayers...Grant that what we have asked in faith, we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen

April Retiring Collection: Discipleship of the Good Shepherd East Africa

DGS tries to go where the Holy Spirit leads it. Last week we mentioned about children’s homes or orphanages and there are many of them with little or no God input. Another area where DGS Africa is being led is Sudan’s Nuba Mountains, a locality that has suffered for a long time with military cleansing. They are becoming passionate about DGS and are requesting training so DGS can spread across the churches and schools.
