1 Corinthians 5.7–8
Collect Easter Day
God of glory,
fill your Church with the power
that flows from Christ’s resurrection,
that, in the midst of this sinful world,
it may signal the beginning of a renewed humanity,
raised to new life with Christ;
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Prayer of the Week
Lord of all life and power,
who, through the mighty resurrection of your Son,
overcame the old order of sin and death to make all things new in him:
grant that we,
being dead to sin and alive to you in Jesus Christ,
may reign with him in glory; to whom with you and the Holy Spirit
be praise, honour and thanksgiving, now and for all eternity. Amen

Fr Peter writes: Easter Day
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Christ is Risen!
In baptism, through the mystery of Christ's death and resurrection, we have died and been buried with Christ, so that we may rise with him to new life. Now that we have completed the observance of Lent, let us renew the promises made in our baptism, when we rejected the devil and all his works, and promised to serve God faithfully as members of his holy catholic Church.
The paschal candle is decorated to recall the cross and is marked with the Greek letters Alpha and Omega and the four numbers of the current year: Christ yesterday and today, the Beginning and the End, Alpha and Omega; all time belongs to him and all the ages. Five nails at the extremities and centre of the cross, marks the wounds of Christ and the flame dispels the darkness of our hearts and minds.
It is lit today and burns during every worship service in the church for the fifty days of Easter. While it is extinguished at Pentecost, it should be relit for baptisms and funerals.
We celebrate Jesus’ victory over death and the life we have in Christ. The flame of Christ lives in our heart and is expressed in our lives.
This parish also moves to a new phase as we welcome Reverend Dr Tom Horton as Priest-in-Charge. He and his family - wife, Amy, and four children: Matthew, Sophie and Adam, and Bee have arrived safely and his Commissioning is Thursday 21st at 7pm. I wish you all well as I return to ‘retirement’ in Logan Parish.
Yours in the household of God, Peter+

THANKS
Words cannot express my gratitude and praise to all who assisted in the preparation of the Rectory . It was a big undertaking. We can all take pride and satisfaction in the results.
Reverend Dr Tom Hunton’s appointment is an answer to our prayers, the children a jewel in the crown. We pray they will settle, be happy in their new home and country as we grow to know each other. Together we grow as the BODY of Christ.
Prayers of the people Prepared by Barbara
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, now risen from the dead fulfilling your promise to your Father and the world, we give our thanks and praise. It means so much to us as we walk the story of this expression of God's great love.
Lord Jesus Christ we give you thanks and praise.
Risen Christ we pray and give thanks for all your ordained servants of the church who have heard and obeyed your call. In our Diocese and parish Phillip, John, Peter, John and Allan. Especially we give grateful thanks for the safe arrival of our parish priest Rev Dr Tom Hunton, his wife Amy and children Matthew, Adam, Sophie and Bea. We welcome and bless them as they work and live amongst us.
Lord Jesus Christ we give you thanks and praise.
Risen Christ teacher and healer, though we live in a world where Me is king, we are citizens of another country, whose king is a servant, whose sceptre a basin, whose crown is humility, whose motto is service. As citizens of that kingdom we swear allegiance by taking up our towels, holding our basins, getting down on our knees in service of those so many millions suffering today. Show us how to give in any way we can.
Lord Jesus Christ we give you thanks and praise.
Risen Christ, we do not see you as Mary did when you rose from the dead, we meet you in the silence, believing, we know you in our hearts and learn about ourselves. You give us so much for which to be thankful. We pray for all who have gone before us in the faith and pray for the elderly and those nearing the end of their lives.
We give thanks for the life of Evanne Mailer who died recently and any others known to us.
Lord Jesus Christ, son of God we give you thanks and praise.
Almighty God, you have promised to hear or prayers...Grant that what we have asked in faith, we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen

Labyrinth Message
This week's labyrinth message for you to "walk with" is : Have you ever been astonished by an instantaneous, joyful but fortuitous surprise? Something or someone who was "dead" to you [ or you had given up upon] miraculously just sprung to life ?
In this week's Gospel, we share with Mary Magdalene and the Disciples the incomprehension, joy and amazement of Jesus's Resurrection. How would you have felt [and reacted] if you were in Mary's shoes? Of all the people who could have been the "first witnesses" … she was chosen. What shock, wonder, joy …and responsibility she must have felt to share this incredible "Good News". I wonder how you can share your experience of the Divine with others this week? May you and yours be richly blessed this Easter :) [The Anglican Labyrinth Resource Group]
April Retiring Collection: Discipleship of the Good Shepherd Africa
More formation trainers are needed. The DGS children’s ministry is now in seven African countries with a total area about the size of Australia and is growing, in that area, in over 20 regions. There are currently about 18 trained formation trainers and DGS Africa is working to train 25 more to help cope with ongoing expansion. Financial help is needed to grow these trainers all over quite a vast area. Your help with this will enable a lot more African children fall in love with Jesus.

To those who knew and loved Vanni, a memorial service will be held on Thursday 21st at 10.30 am, Newheart Baptist Church, 199 Rochedale Rd, Rochedale 4123. Andrew Mailer (brother) looks forward to celebrating Vanni’s life. All welcome.
