Collect of the Day

Eternal God,

whose Son, Jesus Christ, is now exalted as Lord of all,

and pours out his gifts upon the Church:

grant it that unity which only your Spirit can give,

keep us in the bond of peace,

and bring all creation to worship before your throne;

through Jesus Christ our Redeemer,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever. Amen

We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh Nation, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today.

A note from Helen

As Ordinary Time has commenced, Jesus continues to call his disciples to follow him. When Jesus calls us by name to follow him, the invitation is to “come and see.” Come and see what life with Jesus is like, for he knows who we are. As we continue our discipleship with Jesus, we will learn more and more about him, we will see more of heaven and God’s interaction with us.

• God, may I declare who Jesus is as I follow him and you open heaven to me.

Intercessionsprepared by John Noble

Let us first thank God for the wonders of the world in which we live, for the Heavens above and the earth beneath, and for everything living which God has created to share this world with us. Help us always to preserve all that is beautiful and essential for our daily lives, so that those who follow us in years to come can enjoy what we do now.  Lord, in your mercy.....Hear our prayer.

We thank God for the peace and prosperity in which we live here, and pray for all those suffering in conflict zones around the world, particularly in Ukraine and Gaza. In place of the hatred which causes so much loss and sorrow, we pray for world-wide acceptance that everyone has a right to live in peace and be free from fear, whatever their beliefs and customs may be. We pray for all those who have lost their homes, their families and loved ones and are living in refugee camps with no hope for a better future. We pray for all who are working towards finding solutions to these conflicts and for all who bring food, water, shelter and medical help to those most in need.

 Lord, in your mercy.....Hear our prayer.

We pray for the Anglican church throughout the world, and its leaders as they seek the best ways to promote the spread of the Christian message, particularly in countries where there is discrimination against Christians and where there is active publicity critical of religious affairs by those who think that it will cause  offence to those who wish to avoid such topics. We pray for our Archbishop Jeremy, our regional bishop John, our priest Helen, assisting priests John and Alan, and our new parish council. We pray for those who work in voluntary organisations, Anglicare and others, which provide services to those in our community most in need. Lord, in your mercy.....Hear our prayer.

We thank God for our health and strength and pray for all who are no longer able to live the active lives to which they have been accustomed. We pray for all places of healing and treatment and those who work in them, doctors, nurses and those who provide medical advice. We pray for those who care for the sick, the elderly and the handicapped in their own homes or residential accommodation.

Particularly today we pray for...... Lord, in your mercy.....Hear our prayer.

We pray for all those who have been severely affected by the recent storms and floods, and for all who are providing help, the SES, the emergency services and so many volunteers. We pray for those whose homes have been damaged or flooded that they may receive help from their local neighbours and communities....  Lord, in your mercy.....Hear our prayer

We give thanks for those who have been influential in our lives but are no longer with us, particularly....

Almighty God, you have promised to hear our prayers. Grant that what we have asked in faith we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen

Year’s Mind Anniversaries this month: Jean Dunlop

January Retiring Collection: School Chaplaincy

The School Chaplaincy committee has a relief fund called the Dorothy Fund named after Dorothy Robert who worked tirelessly for many years to help the needy in the school communities. Please give generously to that fund. As the new year starts up after a typhoon and many storms and major flooding, and no power and considerable hardship, there will be families doing it hard. We already know that our Chappys are going to be doing a lot of listening and caring and will need lots of coffee and treats to make these times more relaxed.

For some families, the startup for school will be a financial headache, the books and stationery, uniforms and so on, also food and the bills.

Join our voices with the heavenly host

A note from Helen

For a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. This year has not been an easy one, wars, civil unrest, natural disasters, all pile on top of each other and we struggle to see much hope in what is to come. But we are promised hope, hope was born for us this day in Bethlehem and hope is born for us each and every day, because God is with us now and forever. Christmas reveals to us unlikely incarnations, in Bethlehem and in our lives today. God comes to the places that hurt the most, the places where trouble seems insurmountable. Christmas reveals to us the Infinite in the finite and God in humankind.

Intercessionsprepared by Peta

We give you thanks and praise, dear Father for your gift of your son Jesus, this Christmastide. Our glowing tree signals our joy and happiness at his coming. We pray that we learn to live as he has directed us, loving you and our neighbour as ourselves.

‘For a child has been born for us, a son given to us;

Authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named

Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.’

We give you thanks and praise, dear Father for your gift of the marvellous earth which sustains us. We pray for the health and the future of the world. Guide us in our use of its riches, and we pray that all peoples have fair access to water, arable land and life-sustaining resources. We pray for those suffering from the affects of cyclones, and for those that come willingly to support ravaged communities.

‘For a child has been born for us, a son given to us;

Authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named

Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.’

We give you thanks and praise, dear Father for your church and the faithful people who minister in your name. We pray for Archbishop Jeremy, our regional bishop John, our priest Helen, and our faithful youth and small group leaders.

‘For a child has been born for us, a son given to us;

Authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named

Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.’

We give you thanks and praise, dear Father for your gift of friends, family and community, especially at this time of celebration. We pray for all those in our community who won’t get to share Christmas with family or friends, and for those who are in need or suffer any adversity. We pray especially for …… and for those known to us, aloud, or in the silence of our hearts….

‘For a child has been born for us, a son given to us;

Authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named

Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.’

We give you thanks and praise, dear Father for your gift of life, and we remember with love those whom we have lost this year. We give thanks for the faithful departed of every age and those whose year’s mind occurs this month. This week we remember especially your servants Stephan and John.

‘For a child has been born for us, a son given to us;

Authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named

Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.’

Dear Father, hear the prayers we bring before you today and grant that what we have asked, we may by your grace receive. Amen.

December Retiring Collection: Christmas Bowl Appeal – Act for Peace

Share God’s love so refugees are not forgotten this Christmas.

Since 1949, compassionate Christians like you have followed Rev Frank Byatt’s legacy, coming together each Christmas across Australia and the world to provide safety in exile for people forced from their homes by conflict and disaster. Your gift through the Christmas Bowl will support local partners to meet urgent needs and help create a world where uprooted people have a safe place to belong.
