Sentence for the Day
God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power;
and he went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.
Acts 10.38
Collect of the Day
Eternal God,
at the baptism of Jesus in the river Jordan
you proclaimed him your beloved Son,
and anointed him with the Holy Spirit:
grant that all who are baptised into his name
may keep the covenant they have made,
and boldly confess him as Lord and Saviour;
who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns,
one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.
Liturgy: via PowerPoint + APBA Colour – White
Readings:
Genesis 1.1-5; Psalm 29; Acts19.1-7; Mark 1.4-11
We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh Nation, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today
A note from Helen
John the Baptist prophesied that one after him would come and baptise with the Holy Spirit. Today, Jesus comes so that John may baptise him. This baptism in the Jordan is like no other, the heavens are torn apart, the Holy Spirit descends like a dove, and God declares that this is indeed the Son, the Beloved, and God is very pleased with him.
• God, may my baptism with the Holy Spirit transform me that you may be well pleased.

This week’s Intercessions: prepared by Anne
In the waters of baptism we were made God’s children and called to serve one another as we have been served by Christ. Therefore let us pray for one another and for all people who will not or cannot pray for themselves.
Living God, we pray for our world today. We pray for peace and hope to abound.
Many are affected by natural disasters: floods, droughts and forest fires.
Many are struggling with conflict, poverty and the global food crisis.
O Lord, we pray for your provision, peace and protection.
In faith we pray, we pray to you our God.
Living God, bless each and every person affected by the recent storm. Surround them with Your love and protection. Let them know they are being prayed for and that even in the darkest hours, You are always with us.
In faith we pray, we pray to you our God
Living God, we pray that we may stand firm in our faith as we show your love and understanding to one another. Strengthen those who guide us in this time. We pray for Archbishop Jeremy, Bishop John, our Regional Bishop, Rev’d Helen that she may came back refreshed from holidays, and our retired clergy, Allan and John .
In faith we pray, we pray to you our God.
Living God, we pray for the hungry and the homeless, the broken and bereaved. For all for whom this day brings sadness and little joy, for the sick, lonely and the helpless, for those whose hope has been shattered and their faith destroyed.
In faith we pray, we pray to you our God.
Everlasting God, we pray for those approaching death, that through our prayers they may know themselves accompanied with love on that journey. We pray for those who have died, that they may come to know the full joy of heaven
In faith we pray, we pray to you our God.
Be with us Lord in the week ahead as we go out into the world. May the lips that have sung your praises always speak the truth, may the ears which have heard your word listen only to what is good and may our lives as well as our worship be always pleasing in your sight for the glory of Jesus Christ our Lord
In faith we pray, we pray to you our God.
Dear Lord, As the new year begins, we look to you for our hope, joy, and peace. Give us the courage to do all that You ask of us. Please, also make us brave to not do what isn’t from You.
Almighty God, you have promised to hear our prayers, Grant that what we have asked in faith we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

January Retiring Collection: School Chaplaincy
The School Chaplaincy committee has a relief fund called the Dorothy Fund named after Dorothy Robert who worked tirelessly for many years to help the needy in the school communities. Please give generously to that fund. As the new year starts up after a typhoon and many storms and major flooding, and no power and considerable hardship, there will be families doing it hard. We already know that our Chappys are going to be doing a lot of listening and caring and will need lots of coffee and treats to make these times more relaxed.
For some families, the startup for school will be a financial headache, the books and stationery, uniforms and so on, also food and the bills.
