Sentence for the Day

The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand;

repent, and believe in the gospel.

Mark 1.15

Collect of the Day

Bountiful God,

through your Son you have called us to repent of our sin,

to believe the good news,

and to celebrate the coming of your kingdom:

teach us, like Christ’s first apostles,

to hear the call to discipleship,

and, forsaking old ways,

to proclaim the gospel of new life to a broken world;

through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Liturgy:  via PowerPoint + APBA   Colour – Green

Readings: Jonah 3.1-10; Psalm 62.5-12; 1 Corinthians 7.29-31; Mark 1.14-20

We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh Nation, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today.

A note from Helen

Today’s readings need to be understood, in the interplay of God’s eternal wisdom and the challenges of history. While our lives reach beyond the present moment, they are also rooted in our particular historical situation –the Israeli-Gaza conflict, the continuing realities of global climate change. The gospel is always political in that it always touches the lives – positively or negatively – of citizens and decision-makers.  Today’s readings invite us to embrace change, whether it involves our vision of God, personal plans, or our way of life or aspirations. In fact, God may be the ultimate engine of change and creative transformation. Yet, God’s vision takes us far beyond the “breaking news” of the moment to experience our lives and politics in light of God’s transcendent and everlasting vision, manifest in the “thin places” of our lives.  In the flow of life, we can also chant, “Great is thy faithfulness.”

Intercessionsprepared by Keith Slater

Lord God, we acknowledge that your kingdom has come near: hear our prayers for wholeness, healing and fulfilment of your love in us, in all people, and in the whole of creation.

We pray for this world: for the places and peoples who are experiencing hardship and displacement in times of war and natural disasters. We pray for the peoples of Gaza and the Ukraine - and for those still recovering from tornado, cyclone and flood.

Lord, in your mercy:

hear our prayer.

We pray for the Church as it seeks to model your reconciling forgiving love to a world in turmoil. We pray for Jeremy (Archbishop), John (Regional Bishop), Helen (our Priest) and those in leadership roles in our Parish.

Lord, in your mercy:

hear our prayer.

We offer our prayer for those who are ill at this time. We pray particularly for ………… We pray for those who offer love and care in times of distress.

Lord, in your mercy:

hear our prayer.

We give thanks for all those who have been beacons of faith and love to us over the years. We hold before You those who mourn the loss of loved ones - and those whose year’s mind occurs at this time.

Lord, in your mercy:

hear our prayer.

Accept our prayers: through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

January Retiring Collection: School Chaplaincy

The School Chaplaincy committee has a relief fund called the Dorothy Fund named after Dorothy Robert who worked tirelessly for many years to help the needy in the school communities. Please give generously to that fund. As the new year starts up after a typhoon and many storms and major flooding, and no power and considerable hardship, there will be families doing it hard. We already know that our Chappys are going to be doing a lot of listening and caring and will need lots of coffee and treats to make these times more relaxed.
