The message of the cross is complete absurdity

to those who are headed for ruin,

but to us who are experiencing salvation, it is the power of God.

1 Corinthians 1:18

Collect of the Day

Living Word,

Our Wisdom, Law and Temple,

In whom God’s plans and promises are all fulfilled,

Help us follow you so closely

Might through us be drawn to You,

Who alone is our eternal hope. Amen.

Intercessionsprepared by Peta

Heavenly Father, the heavens show your glory and the earth is your marvellous handiwork! We thank you for your amazing gift of the earth and its bounty which sustains us. We pray that all peoples are able to share with justice in this bounty and the resources of the earth, and we pray that all peoples work to honour, protect and sustain your creation.

Heavenly Father, hear our prayer.

We pray for the nations of the world, for leaders and governments, for peoples suffering through war or natural disasters, for those trapped in poverty and despair.

Heavenly Father, hear our prayer.

We pray for your church across the world and here in Australia. We pray for our diocese and parish, for our Archbishop Jeremy, our regional bishop John, our priest Helen and our retired clergy, John and Allan, our school chaplain Jody, our parish and Lenten study leaders, and for one another. We pray for youngsters in our parish starting on their faith journeys and learning to trust in you. Help us to support them and one another and to be generous with our time and talents as we strive to follow you and walk in your footsteps.

Heavenly Father, hear our prayer.

We pray for those struggling with ill health or grief, for those experiencing domestic violence, for those who are lost and rudderless. We pray for young people finding their way. Bring them close to you to feel your love. We pray especially for … and for any known to us whom we name aloud or in the silence of our hearts.

Heavenly Father, hear our prayer.

We give thanks for the faithful departed, for all the saints and the company of heaven who have gone before us. We remember especially those whose year’s mind occurs at this time. We pray for your comforting presence for those who mourn.

Heavenly Father, hear our prayers. Let the words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts be acceptable to you, O Lord, our rock and our redeemer.

Year’s Mind Anniversaries this month: Christopher Fulcher, Geoff Perkins, Tim Lyne, Matthew Power, Amber Mailer, John Vance

A note from Helen

The ten commandments are not so much about rules as they are about relationships, divine-human relationships.  At the core of them is the divine-human covenant, God’s unique relationship with a wilderness people.  God’s graceful liberation and deliverance undergirds each of the commandments. God reminds the Hebraic people, and us, that grace requires a response. God’s fidelity calls on our fidelity and relationship with God and with each other. Our fidelity to God is measured by our fidelity to God’s creatures.  The commandments provide a framework within which to live our lives.

Unfortunately, in many parts of the world, deprivation and vulnerability are not an option, but are the continuing reality of life. We invite you to support the Anglican Board of Ministry’s Lent and Good Friday Appeal, which continues the Lenten tradition of sacrificial giving and compassion. This appeal will help fund nutritional, education and support programs in Gaza, Sri Lanka and Kenya, which aim to improve the health and livelihoods of families, especially children, and those living with a disability.
