Sentence for the Day

As Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert,

so the Chosen One must be lifted up,

so that everyone who believes in the Chosen One

might have eternal life. John 3:14-15

Collect of the Day

Dishonoured, exalted Saviour,

Lifted up in death and life

In shame and glory,

Let us not despise the dangers,

Wounds and failings of our lives,

But find you present in our humiliation,

And find ourselves restored in your resurrection,

Where alone is true rebirth

Of ourselves, your church, and all creation. Amen.

Liturgy: via PowerPoint + APBA Colour – Purple

Intercessionsprepared from ‘Traces of Glory’, by David Adams

O gracious Lord, may your church be a home for the weary, a shelter for the fearful, a strength to the weak, a place of healing and forgiveness to the troubled and the guilty.  We pray for all who are spiritually hungry, for all who have lost faith or who have lost hope.

Lord, let your light shine

In our hearts and in your world.

Lord of life, we pray for the starving peoples, for all without adequate food or shelter, all who do not have a home to call their own.  We pray for street children, and all who have no one to care for them, we pray for those in war-torn cities where food and shelter and safety is not guaranteed.

Lord, let your light shine.

In our hearts and in your world.

We come to you, Lord of love.  We give you thanks for our homes and loved ones; may we not take their love for granted; may we not be a burden to those with whom we live.  In loving each other may we learn of your love for us.

Lord, let your light shine

In our hearts and in your world.

Loving Lord, we pray for families where there is misunderstanding, neglect, violence, or apathy.  We pray for homes of poverty and fear.  We remember all who have lost loved ones this week, all who are caring for loved ones who are ill; for those parted from their loved ones due to sickness, and we pray especially for ……. and those known to us whom we name aloud or in the silence of our hearts.

Lord, let your light shine

In our hearts and in your world.

Lord, in love you welcome us home, you come to meet us and lead us to your kingdom.  We pray for all who have the joy of your nearer presence, for our loved ones departed.

Lord, let your light shine

In our hearts and in your world.

Almighty God, you have promised to hear our prayers…..

A note from Helen

Today’s readings may leave some (most) of us in a quandary, as they ask questions of us that are difficult to answer. They speak of rescue, and global love, yet they also suggest a dark side to the divinity we know as God.  They suggest that God causes suffering and may be a source of punishment that far exceeds our errors. Our readings prompt us to consider the relationship between grace, punishment, and personal responsibility. And they also prompt us to ask questions of God: Is God the source of punishment; do our behaviours just lead to negative outcomes which alienate us from God’s vision for our lives; does God’s orderly universe both harm and heal in such a way that we must accept both as coming from the hand of a loving God.

Caring for Creation

Hello everyone. You will find the emailed regular newsletter from Angligreen in your email inbox. Please take the time to read through it to get an insight into the actions taking place in the Diocese in an effort to protect God’s creation.

We hope that after our first Bulletin inclusion you were able to share some of your recycling and conservation tips with others. Thank you to Bertha for advice on how to manage large volumes of pruning’s in a standard size yard without trips to the green waste dump. If you use products that come in foil wrappers, like coffee bags, see Sonya for ways to turn these into bird deterrents or Christmas decorations.   - Caring for Creation Team

March Retiring Collection: ABM’s Lent and Good Friday Appeal

Unfortunately, in many parts of the world, deprivation and vulnerability are not an option, but are the continuing reality of life. We invite you to support the Anglican Board of Ministry’s Lent and Good Friday Appeal, which continues the Lenten tradition of sacrificial giving and compassion. This appeal will help fund nutritional, education and support programs in Gaza, Sri Lanka and Kenya, which aim to improve the health and livelihoods of families, especially children, and those living with a disability.
