Sentence for the Day
At the name of Jesus, every knee shall bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2.10–11
Collect of the Day
God of all,
you gave your only-begotten Son
to take the form of a servant,
and to be obedient even to death on a cross:
give us the same mind that was in Christ Jesus
that, sharing in his humility,
we may come to be wit h him in his glory,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Liturgy: via PowerPoint + APBA Colour – Red
Readings: Mark 11.1-11; Isaiah 50.4-9; Psalm 31.9-18; Philippians 2.5-11;
Mark 14.1-15.27
We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh language region, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today.
Hymns
Entrance 279 The King of glory comes the nation rejoices
Gradual 636 God has spoken to his people
Offertory 256 The Servant King
Missional 233 I will sing the wondrous story
Intercessions – prepared by Anne King
Let us pray to the Father, who loved the world so much that he sent his only Son to give us life. Your Son watched the soldiers gamble to share his clothes. Transform the hearts of those who make a profit from their victims, and those whose hearts are hardened by their work.
Lord in your mercy, Hear our Prayer
The thief, who was crucified with Jesus, was promised a place in your kingdom. Give pardon and hope, healing and peace to all who look death in the face.
Lord in your mercy, Hear our Prayer
From the cross Jesus entrusted Mary his mother and John his disciple to each other’s care. Help us also to care for one another and fill our homes with the spirit of your love.
Lord in your mercy, Hear our Prayer
In Mary and John your Son created a new family at the cross. Fill our relationships, and those of new families today, with mutual care and responsibility, and give us a secure hope for the future.
Lord in your mercy, Hear our Prayer
The centurion was astonished to see your glory in the crucified Messiah. Open the eyes of those who do not know you to see in your Son the meaning of life and death.
Lord in your mercy, Hear our Prayer
Joseph of Arimathea came to take your Son’s body away. Give hope and faith to the dying and bereaved, especially Valerie and her family at the passing of Doug, and gentleness to those who minister to them.
Lord in your mercy, Hear our Prayer
Simon and Joseph, Mary and John became part of your Church in Jerusalem. Bring into your Church today a varied company of people, to walk with Christ in the way of his passion and to find their salvation in the victory of his cross.
Almighty God, you have promised to hear our prayers. Grant that what we have asked in faith, we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Year’s Mind Anniversaries this month: Christopher Fulcher, Geoff Perkins, Tim Lyne, Matthew Power, Amber Mailer, John Vance
A note from Helen
Today we have two themes through our readings. We start with Palms and celebrating the arrival of the Messiah. Could he be our king? Could he really overthrow these foreign leaders and give us back our own identity? And then the tide turns and this Messiah ends up being treated like a common criminal and all our hopes are dashed. But our reading from Philippians describes a different sort of power and a different type of victory. The Messiah wins by becoming one of us, taking on our fallibility and transforming us from within. In Christ’s victory, everyone bows down before him out of love, not fear of reprisal. This reading invites us to share in the mind of Christ and look at our decision-making in terms of relational power, not coercive power. Palm Sunday invites us to experience the full roller-coaster of life and discover the interplay of joy and sorrow that awakens us to the divine possibility of healing and reconciliation in the chaos of our own lives.
NOTICES
Watering Roster at St George’s
Now that our gardens have been spruced up and new plants added, we need to maintain them by regularly watering them. We need folks to water the garden twice a week on a weekly basis. If you would like to be involved, please sign the sheet at the back of the church. You will then be allocated a week in which you are responsible for the watering.
Cuppa in the Communi-tea
Scenic Rim Regional Council is holding their Cuppa in the Communi-tea on Tuesday the 26th of March: 10am – 11:00am, at DJ Smith Park in Canungra. This is a fundraiser for St Luke’s, who will be providing the morning tea. Please contact Sonya if you can assist.
CHRISM EUCHARIST
The Annual Chrism Eucharist will be held in St John’s Cathedral, on Tuesday 26 March at 7.00pm. The Chrism Eucharist and Renewal of Ordination Vows is an important annual service in the life of the Diocese. It is the occasion for the blessing of holy oils and the opportunity for us to rededicate ourselves afresh to the ministries to which God has called us. All are welcome. If you would like a lift, please let Rev’d Helen know.

March Retiring Collection: ABM’s Lent and Good Friday Appeal
Unfortunately, in many parts of the world, deprivation and vulnerability are not an option, but are the continuing reality of life. We invite you to support the Anglican Board of Ministry’s Lent and Good Friday Appeal, which continues the Lenten tradition of sacrificial giving and compassion. This appeal will help fund nutritional, education and support programs in Gaza, Sri Lanka and Kenya, which aim to improve the health and livelihoods of families, especially children, and those living with a disability.
