Collect of the Day

Risen Christ,

breathe on us with your abundant life,

that where we cannot see

we may have courage to believe

that we may be raised with you. Amen

We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh language region, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today.

Intercessionsprepared by Peta Tierney

We rejoice and give thanks to you our heavenly Father for the gift of our saviour and risen Lord, Jesus Christ. We stumble in living lives according to your will but we are precious in your sight and trust in you.

Jesus said: Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.

We rejoice and give thanks to you our heavenly Father for your gift of the world. We pray for peace and tolerance in place of war and brutality; we pray especially for peace in Gaza and Ukraine. We pray for clean water and arable land, and the just share of the earth’s resources for all peoples to live with human dignity. We pray for those living in fear, grinding poverty or slavery.

Jesus said: Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.

Your church in this place and around the world celebrates your son Jesus Christ rising to new life. We give thanks to you our heavenly Father for your gift of your church, for church leaders, for your servants Jeremy, John and Helen, and for all in this place who use their time and talents to honour and serve you.

Jesus said: Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.

We rejoice and give thanks to you our heavenly Father for your gift of our safe communities and neighbourhoods in Australia, for good healthcare, for the abundance we all share. We pray for those who are marginalised from this abundance, those who are in pain, chronically ill, or dying. We pray especially for…. and for any others known to us whom we name aloud or in the silence of our hearts….

Jesus said: Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.

We rejoice and give thanks to you our heavenly Father for your gift of everlasting life, and we remember all the saints and our loved ones who have gone before us to be with you for eternity. We remember those whose year’s mind occurs at this time. Comfort those who grieve.

Heavenly father, hear the prayers we bring before you and guide us as we follow you.

Year’s Mind Anniversaries this month: Lesley Williams, Barbara Miller, Max Kitson, Les Duncan

A note from Helen

“no one claimed private ownership of any possessions, but everything they owned was held in common.” That countercultural form of social behaviour flies in the face of our ‘what is mine is mine’ attitude to life and is difficult to put into practice in our current way of living. Our society sees consumerism and greed as acceptable, although we usually do not refer to it in those terms. In ways that defy our economic and political systems, the earliest members of the ‘Jesus movement’ sold everything they had and pooled their resources to ensure that everyone had all they needed, no one was left in need and in that way, everyone was cared for and no one was left ‘wanting’. They embodied the Jubilee spirit that came with Jesus’ resurrection and the full manifestation of God’s Spirit on Pentecost. They show us that faithfulness requires changed behaviours even in the economic sphere. What behaviours might we need to change to show similar faithfulness today.

NOTICES

Watering Roster at St George’s

Now that our gardens have been spruced up and new plants added, we need to maintain them by regularly watering them. We need folks to water the garden twice a week on a weekly basis. If you would like to be involved, please sign the sheet at the back of the church. You will then be allocated a week in which you are responsible for the watering.

Cake Stall Packaging

Sonya really needs the help of some inventive types to save her sanity. All that plastic wrapping used at our cake stalls is doing her head in. What’s the alternative? We know food hygiene/safety is the first priority. And the ideal presentation allows customers to inspect the goodies available. Any ideas?

Sip and Paint at St George’s for Emergency Relief

Please save Tuesday 23 April 9.30 to 12.00 for a FUNDRAISER to benefit our EMERGENCY RELIEF funds - a ‘sip and paint’ morning in the Georgian Room. Talented local artist, Heather Dale of ‘Patchworkdog’, will lead us through a watercolour lesson (brush techniques, colour mixing etc) on painting leaves for starters – a beginning step into floral art. Heather has volunteered her time with all materials provided (paper, paints and brushes).

A light lunch will be provided by some of us. The cost is $30.00

Please contact Jan Holland at morning tea or on 0415 365 545 or 55453257 to confirm the numbers for lesson and lunch.

Christian Life and Witness Course
