Sentence for the Day
Turn to God so that your sins may be wiped out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.
Acts 3.19–20
Collect of the Day
Lord of life,
by submitting to death, you conquered the grave;
by being lifted upon the cross, you draw all peoples to you;
by being raised from the dead,
you restore to humanity all that was lost through sin:
be with us in your risen power,
that in word and deed we may proclaim
the marvellous mystery of death and resurrection.
For all praise is yours, now and throughout eternity. Amen.

Intercessions – prepared by Barbara Fulcher
Let us learn to be one in Christ. Jesus said “Peace be with you” when he appeared to the disciples after the resurrection. We pray for peace in the world where there is war, and peace and joy for those without their settled lives and livelihoods, those needing sustenance for new life, and all doing their best to give them what they need.
Loving God, hear our prayer.
Lord Jesus, you came to show us how to live. We pray and give thanks for the different ways of worshipping you in our churches, that we respect one another and be as one.
We give thanks for priests and servants of the church and those thinking about ordination. We pray for Helen, Jeremy and John and those serving in our diocese.
Give them courage and strength to keep going when times are hard.
Loving God, hear our prayer.
Lord Jesus, we would love to see your face and remember that your gracious father made the world and all that is in it. Let us not take it for granted and our community on the mountain who do their best to keep it unspoiled. We give grateful thanks for all who serve the community in any way.
Loving God, hear our prayer.
Lord Jesus, there are many who suffer from various kinds of illness. We pray particularly today for those who have asked for our prayers who we name aloud or in the silence of our hearts……………………….. heal and bless them.
When we are disturbed in any way, keep us from sin by going into a quiet place within to seek your face and feel you close. Show us how to be sensitive and understanding.
Loving God, hear our prayer.
Merciful God, we pray for all who have died and guided us on our faith journey. Today we remember Fran Newling and give thanks for her life and presence among us. May her family be at peace knowing she is resting with you. Comfort them in their grief and be thankful for the love and life she gave them.
Loving God, hear our prayers and let them come to you. Amen.
Year’s Mind Anniversaries this month: Lesley Williams, Barbara Miller, Max Kitson, Les Duncan
A note from Helen
Resurrection is both life-shattering and ‘beyond belief’, and when we encounter it, our lives are fully transformed. And John, in this first letter, calls us to live transformed lives. He reminds us of how important it is to confess our sins, and he reminds us that sin affects every one of us. To try to say we ‘have no sin’ would be to claim a perfection that is not ours. God willingly forgives our sins and guides us on the right path, and when we come to God in confession we not only admit to God our failings, we admit them to ourselves. When we follow Christ, we walk ‘in the light’, and our calling is to be as Christ-like as we can. By liberating ourselves from the power of sin, we are able to see Christ as he is, in us and in all around us. But following Christ is not always ‘straight forward’. We try to love as God loves us, but the love of Christ was always countercultural and considered by the religious leaders of the day as ‘sinful’. Today, when we show God’s love to others, we also may be ‘judged’ as ‘strange’, or even ‘wrong’, but if our love is ‘other-centered’, or ‘God-centered’, rather than ‘self-centered’, it will never be wrong.
NOTICES
Cake Stall Packaging
Sonya really needs the help of some inventive types to save her sanity. All that plastic wrapping used at our cake stalls is doing her head in. What’s the alternative? We know food hygiene/safety is the first priority. And the ideal presentation allows customers to inspect the goodies available. Any ideas?
Watercolour Workshop at St George’s for Emergency Relief
Please save Tuesday 23 April 9.30 to 12.00 for a FUNDRAISER to benefit our EMERGENCY RELIEF funds - a Watercolour Workshop in the Georgian Room. Talented local artist, Heather Dale of ‘Patchworkdog’, will lead us through a watercolour lesson (brush techniques, colour mixing etc) on painting leaves for starters – a beginning step into floral art. Heather has volunteered her time with all materials provided (paper, paints and brushes).
A light lunch will be provided by some of us. The cost is $30.00
Please contact Jan Holland at morning tea or on 0415 365 545 or 55453257 to confirm the numbers for lesson and lunch.
Pantry Donations
The pantries at St Luke’s and St George’s are both in need of donations. Please keep them in mind when you do your next shop or spring clean!
