Collect of the Day

Jesus, good shepherd of the sheep,

by whom the lost are sought

and guided into the fold:

feed us and we shall be satisfied,

heal us and we shall be whole,

and lead us that we may be with you,

where you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Intercessionsprepared by Jan Armstrong

Creator God, we praise you for a world that is wonderfully made. We thank you for life-giving rain that waters our land, for warming sun and fertile soil. Help us, as shepherds, to care for all of your creation, for the plants, animals and people as we live our daily lives. May we show your love to the world around us.

Loving Heavenly Father, may your name be praised in all the Earth.

Holy God, as Christians around Australia and the world gather today to sing your praises and be renewed in their faith may we support and care for one another. We pray for the world-wide Anglican Communion especially in areas of conflict and war. May those who are living through dark times feel your comforting presence. We pray for Archbishop Jeremy, Regional Bishop John and for Reverend Helen and her family.

Loving Heavenly Father, may your name be praised in all the Earth.

Caring God, as we live our daily lives, by our actions, may we so witness to your presence in our lives, that we may shine brightly for you. We pray that for those, who we live and work with each day, we may be like mirrors reflecting your love. Help us to care for the physical and spiritual needs of our community. Bless all those who work as members of our local community both paid and voluntarily.

Loving Heavenly Father, may your name be praised in all the Earth.

Loving God, we pray for all who are unwell whether at home or in hospital, that your healing hand may be upon them. We especially pray for those known to us who we name aloud or in the silence of our hearts. ………………

Loving Heavenly Father, may your name be praised in all the Earth.

Loving God, we thank you for all those who lived their lives reflecting your love and who are now dwelling with you for eternity. We especially remember those whose Year’s mind occurs at this time.

Loving Heavenly Father, may your name be praised in all the Earth.

Grant that what we have asked in faith we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Year’s Mind Anniversaries this month: Lesley Williams, Barbara Miller, Max Kitson, Les Duncan

A note from Helen

Our reading from Acts today reveals healing rooted in divine power. The name of Jesus can transform lives. It conveys God’s authority and healing power, and its vibrations can change cells and souls. But within this passage there is a section which can be difficult to read well, and it has been used in the past to promote Christian exclusivism and exceptionalism. Peter tells us salvation is only found in the name of Jesus, and only through his name can we be saved. And this suggests, at first glance, that only those who ‘know’ Jesus can experience wholeness and salvation. But this passage may also point to the abundance of God’s love in Christ that offers life to every path of salvation. Wherever wholeness is found, it comes through Christ regardless of how it has come. God holds the power and by God’s grace the ‘other sheep’ and ourselves find healing and salvation.
