Loving God,

your Son has chosen us

the source of all our life,

Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Intercessionsprepared by John Noble

This is the day that the Lord has made....Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

First we thank God for the wonderful world in which we live, and for all living creatures with which we share it. We pray that all will use its resources wisely and preserve its beauties for those generations who will come after us. Lord, in your mercy....Hear our prayer.

We thank God for the peace and prosperity in which we live here in Australia and we pray for those living in so many places around the world where there is conflict and civil strife. In particular we pray for those who are actively seeking an end to the war in Gaza, that a way may be found which will satisfy the requirements of both sides of the conflict. We pray for so many who have suffered death and injury of loved ones and those who have lost all their houses and possessions, in Gaza, the Ukraine and parts of Africa where so many have died and lost everything. We remember those who are trying to bring relief, medical and food supplies to those in urgent need.

Lord, in your mercy....Hear our prayer.

We pray for Christians throughout the world, and particularly those who are suffering discrimination and possible danger because of their faith. We pray for our Church leaders, Jeremy our Archbishop, John, our regional bishop, Helen our priest and all those who help in running our parish activities.

Lord, in your mercy....Hear our prayer.

We pray for our local communities on the Mountain and around Canungra, for all who work in schools, in local government organisations and for so many who do voluntary work to help their neighbours and those who are unable to look after themselves. Lord, in your mercy....Hear our prayer.

We thank God for our health and strength and pray for all who work to bring healing and treatment to those who are suffering, for doctors, nurses and others who work in clinics and residential care homes. We pray for so many who care for others in their own homes. Particularly today we pray for...., and any others whom we know are in need at this time.

We remember those who have been influential in our lives but are no longer with us, those whose years mind is now..

Let us say this grace together. Go before us, O lord, in all our doings with your most gracious favour and assist us with your continual help, that in all works, begun, continued and ended in you, we may glorify your holy name, and finally by your mercy, obtain everlasting life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Year’s Mind Anniversaries this month:  Mary Newton, Kathleen Weildon, Jacqui Davis.

A note from Helen

We see in our Acts reading how God opens the door for more than just the ‘chosen people’, the people of Israel, to be welcomed into the emerging 1st century church. Peter has been reluctant to eat ‘unclean food’ until God shows him nothing and no one is unclean or beyond the scope of God’s saving love. He is then criticised on more than one occasion for ‘eating with gentiles’, and for including them in his teaching circle. And then, while speaking, Peter and the Jews who have followed him, witness the Holy Spirit filling the gentiles to whom Peter was preaching. Which prompts Peter to pose the rhetorical question to both himself and the Jews – if these have already received the Holy Spirit, how then can we fail to baptise them. New life is emerging, old doctrines and practices give way to new vision and behaviours. The Spirit is always embracing ‘otherness’ as reflective of God’s love for all creation.

Mother’s Day Stall

Our annual Mother’s’ Day stall at St George’s is on this Saturday May 11th, with cakes, savouries, jams and plants. Please consider what you can contribute to this important fundraiser. We are also looking for helpers on the day. You will find a sign on sheet at the entrance of the church.

Thank You to Yvonne and Lorraine who have agreed to ‘job share’ as ‘interim warden’ and to Roy who has offered to ‘look after the contractors’ during Peta’s absence.

CPR Training

CPR Training Saturday May 18th at St George’s Church from 10:00-11:00am. There is a sign on sheet at the entrance of the church if you are interested. Online material will be sent out to participants prior to the training.

Recycling Opportunities

Are you aware of the easy ways to recycle some items we might otherwise assign to landfill? The Caring for Creation Team have positioned boxes at both churches for you to leave the following items: mobile phones, spectacles, smaller batteries, printer toner cartridges, plastic bottle caps and blister packs. We are aware of places where we can take these items to avoid them going into landfill. Do you know of any other smaller items we could save from landfill, that might be recycled/upcycled?

We are also aware of a great program that will accept electrical items of any sort and repurpose them in some way. More information about Substation 33 can be found online at  https://www.substation33.com.au/

May Retiring Collection: Mercy Ships

Every day, children and adults in some of the poorest communities die from causes that can easily be treated in hospitals in nations like Australia. Mercy Ships are able to deploy their state-of-the-art hospital ships to treat people. They also train and upskill local healthcare workers so that their great work continues into the future. Up to 70% of the world’s population lives near the coast, and their hospital ships are unique platforms to direct medical care and build medical capacity into these communities.
