Collects
Ascension Day
God of majesty,
you led the Messiah through suffering into risen life, and took him up into the glory of heaven:
clothe us with the power promised from on high, and send us forth to the ends of the earth
as heralds of repentance and witnesses of Jesus Christ,
the firstborn from the dead,
who lives with you now and always in the unity
of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever.
Amen.
Seventh Sunday of Easter
Almighty God,
your blessed Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ,
ascended far above all heavens that he might fill all things:
mercifully give us faith to trust
that, as he promised,
he abides with us on earth until the end of time;
through the same
Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

Gracious God, we give you thanks for the resurrection of Jesus and the gift of the Holy Spirit. We bring our prayers for the world, the church, and for one another before you.
We pray for the world in the midst of turmoil, particularly in Gaza and the Ukraine. We pray that the gift of life is handled with gentle hands as we care for your creation, as we tend, and use wisely and sustainably the natural environment in which we live.
In your mercy: hear our prayer.
We pray for the community in which we live. We pray that we shape our words and actions so that they are community building, so that they proclaim the gospel and its values - so they give shape and voice to your love.
In your mercy: hear our prayer.
We pray for the church, for Helen, our priest; for Archbishop Jeremy and Bishop John, We pray for the discernment of necessary ministries among us; for all who exercise leadership roles within the life of our Parish; and for each of us as we seek to live in the way of Christ.
In your mercy: hear our prayer.
We pray for those who are sick or in need. We pray that those who ask for our prayer at this time are surrounded with your healing grace and assurance of your presence. We pray for …………..
In your mercy: hear our prayer.
We remember those who have died: We give thanks for those who have been examples of living faith to us; those who have helped to shape our journey of faith. We pray for those whose year’s mind occurs at this time.
In your mercy: hear our prayer.
Accept our prayers: through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
Year’s Mind Anniversaries this month: Mary Newton, Kathleen Weildon, Jacqui Davis
A note from Helen
In the first chapter of Acts, we find the description of the first congregational meeting in church history. And at this meeting a decision was made that they needed to ‘replace’ Judas. They choose two ‘likely candidates’ then they ‘cast lots’ between the two prospective replacements. But this was not a matter of ‘happenstance’ or ‘dumb luck’. This decision was bathed in prayer. Prior to making their choice the apostles prayed for God’s presence in the process. Now I am not suggesting that prayer interrupts or alters normal cause and effect relationships, but I am suggesting that prayer connects us with deeper wisdom, power and insight. It opens a connection with the mind of God, enabling us to see more and do more. Prayer guides our steps in line with God’s vision for us and our community. So next time you have a ‘delicate decision’ to make, instead of just ‘flipping a coin’, or even before you ‘flip the coin’, pray about it, open yourself to God’s vision for whatever it is you are deliberating about.

May Retiring Collection: Mercy Ships
Every day, children and adults in some of the poorest communities die from causes that can easily be treated in hospitals in nations like Australia. Mercy Ships are able to deploy their state-of-the-art hospital ships to treat people. They also train and upskill local healthcare workers so that their great work continues into the future. Up to 70% of the world’s population lives near the coast, and their hospital ships are unique platforms to direct medical care and build medical capacity into these communities.
