Intercessions - prepared by John Noble
In our prayers today, let us first thank God for the wonders of the creation in which we live and for all the forms of life with which we are surrounded. May we always work to preserve all this beauty and the resources we use for those who will come after us.
Lord, in your mercy... Hear our prayer.
We thank God for the peace and prosperity in which we life here in Australia and pray for all who are suffering in areas of conflict, particularly in the Ukraine, Gaza, the Sudan and Myanmar. We pray for all those whose familiar and comfortable homes have been destroyed and they now have nowhere to call home except a tent in a refugee camp. We pray for all who work to bring comfort and relief to refugees and for all who are engaged in efforts to bring peace which will be acceptable to the warring sides.
Lord, in your mercy... Hear our prayer.
We pray for our church and for all our leaders who are faced with increasing moves towards more secular states, with many who prefer to ignore all the positive influences and achievements which the church has brought here and to other parts of the world.
We pray for our Archbishop Jeremy, our Bishop John , our priest Helen and for all who work to keep our church running.
Lord, in your mercy... Hear our prayer.
We thank God for our health and strength and pray for all who work in places of healing and treatment. We remember all those who care for those who can no longer look after themselves, either at home or in residential care, and today we pray especially for.....
Lord, in your mercy... Hear our prayer.
We pray for our local communities, on the Mountain and around Canungra, and for all who work to provide us with the services which we take for granted, in shops, offices, local government and schools. We pray for the homeless, and all families affected by domestic violence, and for those who help  them.
Lord, in your mercy... Hear our prayer.
We see and hear so much about protests being held here in Australia and other countries, and we pray that everyone will accept the views and opinions of those with whom they disagree, and that violence, intimidation and discrimination must always be avoided.
Lord, in your mercy... Hear our prayer.
We thank God for the lives of those whom have been influential in our lives but are no longer with us, particularly…
Almighty God, you have promised to hear our prayers.  Grant that what we have asked in faith , we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

A note from Helen
Our Psalm this morning starts with a prayer common to many of us. ‘God give me the desire of my heart and make all my plans succeed. May the Lord grant all my requests’. Not a bad prayer but, thankfully, God does not give us much of what we ask for. As the psalmist qualifies and deepens his thought ‘some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God’. It is better to trust in God’s love than the raw power of chariots and horses. And then when we look at Saul –we are told in the days of Saul there was constant war with the Philistines. History did not run according to Saul’s desires and Samuel deposed him and anointed a very unlikely successor. At God’s behest, Samuel chose this ‘handsome and ruddy’ son of Jesse, David, because God sees things differently to the way we see things and does the unexpected. Today’s readings challenge us to see and live life from God’s perspective, and in doing so we may well find that God works in ways that surprise us.

June Retiring Collection:  Discipleship of the Good Shepherd
DGS in Africa is currently focussed on two major works. The setting up of two centres, in Tanzania and western Kenya, to translate all of the DGS material into Swahili. Swahili is spoken by about 200 million people, so translation will open the children’s work up to many more children. The other big work is setting up toddler atriums in large churches in Nairobi, Kenya as a precursor to doing similar startups in the slum areas. The funding need is for second-hand laptops to initiate translation and to do online training. Blessings John
