Collect

O God our defender,

storms rage about us and cause us to be afraid:

rescue your people from despair,

deliver your sons and daughters from fear,

and preserve us all from unbelief;

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.

Amen.

Liturgy: via PowerPoint + APBA Colour – Green

Readings: 1 Samuel 17:32-49; Psalm 9:9-20; 2 Corinthians 6:1-13; Mark 4:35-41

We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh language region, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today.

A note from Helen
Life does not always ‘give us roses’. But we are assured that, no matter what, we will always be ‘in God’s vision’. When we trust God, we find ourselves able to achieve things way beyond our previous expectations. We find the impossible is suddenly possible as we tap into deeper energies. Miracles do not violate nature’s law, nature’s power and the powers to be found deep within ourselves are more than we can imagine. Faith opens us to quantum leaps of power, inspiration and energy. God’s grace will always be enough for us to respond to every ‘thorn’ found in our gardens. Even if we appear weak, we are strong in God’s love.

Intercessions - prepared by Keith Slater
Lord Jesus as you stilled the storm may our lives be stilled in you.
We pray for the peace of the world, bringing to mind those places of war, turmoil and displacement; for the peoples of Gaza and Ukraine. We pray for a release of love and compassion instead of hatred and discord.
Lord of the wind and storm: hear our prayer.
We pray for Archbishop Jeremy, Bishop John and Reverend Helen in their leadership roles in the church, praying particularly for the deliberations of the Diocesan Synod this week-end. We pray for gentleness and care in the midst of difficult conversations.
Lord of the wind and storm: hear our prayer.
We pray for this Parish family at St Luke’s and St George’s, and for the communities in which we are called to minister your love.
Lord of the wind and storm: hear our prayer.
We pray for preparedness to serve those among us in their time of need. We bring to mind those who ask for our prayers today …………….. Bless them that they may know your healing presence.
Lord of the wind and storm: hear our prayer.
We thank you, Lord, for those who have gone before and who have been examples to us in the midst of their own issues of life.
Lord of the wind and storm: hear our prayer.
Almighty God, you have promised to hear our prayers. Grant that what we have asked in faith, we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

June Retiring Collection:  Discipleship of the Good Shepherd

DGS in Africa is currently focussed on two major works. The setting up of two centres, in Tanzania and western Kenya, to translate all of the DGS material into Swahili. Swahili is spoken by about 200 million people, so translation will open the children’s work up to many more children. The other big work is setting up toddler atriums in large churches in Nairobi, Kenya as a precursor to doing similar startups in the slum areas. The funding need is for second-hand laptops to initiate translation and to do online training. Blessings John
