We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh Nation, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today.

A note from Helen

We have been given a very challenging gospel today, but if we look beyond the apparent judgement and see it as invitation to build and sustain a blessed community, then we can read it more softly.  Instead of ‘killing’ relationships through anger or unforgiveness, be prepared to forgive, accept, and love, those around us.  Instead of objectifying and using others for our own pleasure, be prepared to help others to succeed in relationships.  Imagine a society where the ‘default’ assumption is that people always tell the truth, they keep their promises; where no one needs to ‘swear’ that a thing is true because we just accept your word at face value.  In the beloved community Jesus is shaping, we have a responsibility to uphold each other as children of God, regardless of whether our relationship as spouse or partner hits rocky seas and fails.  Jesus assures us ‘You’ matter, ‘how you live’ with each other matters, ‘your choices’ have consequences; so reconcile with each other, honour each other, speak truthfully to each other, protect each other, because you are richly blessed.

This week’s intercessions: Prepared by John N

This is the day that the Lord has made...Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Let us first thank God for the wonders of the world in which we live and for all the living creatures of land, sea and air which share this world with us. May we always treat and preserve its resources with care and thoughtfulness.

Lord, in your mercy .....Hear our prayer

We thank God for the peace and prosperity in which we live in this beautiful land and we pray for all those who are suffering from natural disasters from which they cannot be protected, particularly all those who have been affected by the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. We remember all those who have lost loved ones, family members. their houses and possessions and for whom the future is unknown and bleak at best. We pray for all who are engaged in relief work and those providing food, medical assistance and accommodation for the bereaved.

Lord, in your mercy .....Hear our prayer

We thank God for the Anglican Communion of which we are members, and we pray for those Christians in countries where there is persecution and discrimination against all who call themselves Christians. We pray for church leaders, our regional bishop John, our priest Helen and for all who work in our parish in their daily lives.

As the selection of a new Archbishop is in progress we offer this prayer:

Eternal God, shepherd and guide, in your mercy give your church in this diocese a shepherd after your own heart who will walk in your ways and with loving care watch over your people. Give us a leader of vision and a teacher of your truth, so may your church be built up and your name glorified, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Lord, in your mercy .....Hear our prayer

We thank God for our health and strength and pray for all who at this time are unable to lead the lives to which they have been accustomed, all who suffer from long or short-term illness and those who are worried that their health may become worse. We pray for all who work in places of healing and treatment, hospitals, clinics and for all who care for the sick, elderly and handicapped in their own homes or in residential care. Today we pray for..... Lord, in your mercy .....Hear our prayer

We pray for our local community and for all those who work to provide our daily services, emergency workers, those in shops and offices, our friends and neighbours and those who are available to help us when need arises.

Lord, in your mercy .....Hear our prayer

We thank God for the lives of all who have been a beneficial influence on us but who are no longer with us, particularly we remember....

Almighty God, you have promised to hear our prayers, Grant that what we have asked in faith we may by your Grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
