Collect

Faithful God,

you have appointed us your witnesses,

to be a light that shines in the world:

let us not hide the bright hope you have given us,

but tell everyone your love,

revealed in Jesus Christ the Lord,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Liturgy:  via PowerPoint + APBA   Colour – Green

Readings:

Isaiah 58.1-9a; Psalm 112; I Corinthians 2.1-13; Matthew 5.13-20

We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh Nation, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today.

A note from Helen

You are salt of the earth and light of the world.  It is a big ask.  But this is not an instruction of what to do, but an assurance of what already is.  You are salt of the earth; you are light of the world.  And the rest of this passage simply tells us what a difference our salt and light can be for the earth and the world.  If you were to examine your life over the last couple of weeks, where do you see God using you to be salt of the earth, or light of the world.  Maybe you offered words of encouragement to someone; perhaps you have volunteered somewhere.  These things may seem ‘small potatoes’ in the grand scheme of life, but God often uses ‘small’ to change the world.  As the jingle in the ad goes ‘from little things, big things grow’; small words of encouragement, small acts of kindness, can have huge effect on those touched by them.

NOTICES…

Annual Emergency Relief Cake Stall Saturday 11th February 8:00 am until sold out.

Please help to make it a successful fundraiser by bringing your baked goods (Pastries, cakes, quiches, muffins …..) at 8:00 or earlier.

If you have jams or plants these would also be welcome.

We will also need several people to help “man” the stall. See signup sheet at back of church.

One or two hours shifts available

Working Bee

.  Thank you to those who helped clean out the annexe on Saturday.   Like all good homes, we sometimes need to ‘clean it up’.  As there are many rooms and areas in our buildings, it may take some time, SO, I propose we have a ‘series’ of short working bees over a number of months.

Wally Wombat Club Wednesdays 9.30am St George’s

(in term time, commencing 1st February)

A new initiative for babies, crawlers and young children, along with their mums, dads or carers will commence on Wednesday 1st February. A wonderful time of play, working with and engaging with interesting materials, singing and stories and talking with the Good Shepherd; all helping these young ones with their quest for life skills and experiences of the Good Shepherd’s love. Please spread the word. For more information contact John on 0477 839 136

Contemporary Worship Returns to Sunday

From Feb 5, the ‘relaxed’ service will return at 4pm on Sunday afternoons.  Pass the word around, tell those who have previously enjoyed this service.  We will be exploring a range of ‘relaxed’ Eucharist service types.

This week’s intercessions: Prepared by Barbara

Let us relax our hearts and minds of all that distracts us and turn our attention to our thoughts and prayers for whom we pray today, acknowledging Our loving God and praising Him for the world He has created.  We give thanks for this special place in which we live and move and have our being. By contrast we pray for the people of Ukraine and all other places of conflict, as they see their homes destroyed and loved ones killed, livelihoods eradicated.

Give them strength and courage to rebuild their lives.

Lord in your mercy hear our prayer.

Almighty God we thank you for the worldwide Anglican Church and the priests and people who by faith lead and encourage us in your mission. We pray for Phillip, John and Helen. Help them to gather their courage and trust when leading and guiding your faithful people and those seeking to know you. Help us to open our hearts and minds to listen to our leaders and work with them day by day.

Lord in your mercy hear our prayer.

Loving God, You are with us in our hearts and minds in our days and nights. May we share this knowledge with those looking for help and guidance spoken or unspoken in our community. We ask that whatever age we are; we can influence our children for good and knowledge of You. Thank you for Fr John as he ministers to children and all who teach RI in our local schools.

Lord in your mercy hear our prayer.

Loving God we pray for those in need. Those recovering from the aftermath of Covid and all that it means. We give thanks and pray for the disabled and their courage in their lives. May they know they are loved and treasured as we all are by you.

We pray for those who are sick and have asked for our prayers................

all in care homes especially Roslyn Lodge and their staff.

Lord in your mercy hear our prayer.

Almighty God as we prepare for Lent we give thanks for those who have guided us on our faith journey and who are no longer with us. We are grateful for the memories we have of them and pray they will rest in peace in your eternal glory.

Almighty God you have promised to hear our prayers. Grant that what we have asked in faith we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord AMEN.

Anglican Board of Mission is the national mission agency for the Anglican Church. It is the channel through which Australian Anglicans participate in mission, both here and overseas. We want to see people everywhere experience the wholeness of life God offers in Jesus Christ, and to this end we support our partners as they participate in God’s mission.
