They cried out in fear, but Jesus spoke to them and said, ‘Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid.’

Matthew 14.26–27

Collect of the Day

Mighty God and ruler of all creation,

give new strength to our faith,

that we may recognise your presence

even when all hope seems lost.

Help us to face all trials with serenity

as we walk with Christ through the stormy seas of life

and come at the last to your eternal peace.

We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Liturgy:  via PowerPoint + APBA   Colour – Green

Readings:

Genesis 37.1-4,12-28; Psalm 105.1-6,16-22; Romans 10.4-15;

Matthew 14.22-36

We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh language region, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today.

A note from Helen

“In all things God works for good”, a response we often give to people in distress when we don’t know what else to say.  Unfortunately, it is not always heard in the spirit in which Paul meant when he wrote this missive to the Romans.  It leaves the person, and us, feeling like we should be grateful for bad outcomes because God will use that bad outcome to achieve something good.  EEEWWWW!.  Our Hebraic reading this morning gives us the beginning of a story that, while exposing bad choices and decisions, will eventually have a good outcome, even if it is many, many years later.  Not all the choices we make are good ones, not everything in our lives will look rosy all the time; but knowing that God is with us in the disasters, in the bad decisions; and knowing that God will help us to make the most of the situation we find ourselves in can be comforting.  God does have our best interests at heart, all the time.  Let us pray that we also have God’s best interests at heart when we make all those decisions we make in and for our lives.

Missing from the Flower Vestry

We’re looking for information about where the artificial gum leaves used in some flower arrangements have been put.  If you know anything about this, please let us know in the office.

Free Trees for Rectory

It’s that time of year – your SRRC rates recently arrived in the mail, along with two free tree vouchers. As we are now attempting to enhance the rectory privacy with a living green screen, a donation of one or both of your free trees to this project would be welcome. We are looking for something evergreen and bushy that will grow to 2-3m in height.

Intercessions – prepared by Keith

With humble hearts we come before you this day and offer our prayer to you, gracious God.

We pray for our earthly habitat, for the beauty of creation, and for the readiness to care for and sustain this planet.

We pray for those places where war and oppression are happening, for your transformative Spirit to bring new life, peace and freedom

Lord, as we walk through the storms of life: hear our prayer.

We pray for Helen, our priest, John, our regional bishop, and Cameron, the bishop administrator.

We pray for the Church, for its ministry of compassion and redemptive love, praying that we might each be agents of change and forgiveness.

Lord, as we walk through the storms of life: hear our prayer.

We pray for the communities in which we live and work and play. We pray for wisdom in our relationships with others, and for gentle sharing of the Good News.

Lord, as we walk through the storms of life: hear our prayer.

We hold before you, O Lord, all those who have particular needs at this time, praying especially for …….

Lord, as we walk through the storms of life: hear our prayer.

We remember those who have gone before, having walked through the storms of life, thanking you, O Lord, for their witness and faithfulness.

Lord, as we walk through the storms of life: hear our prayer.

(Prayer for a new Archbishop – Rev’d Helen.)

Gracious God we offer you our prayers this day. May we be open and ready to hear your voice. Amen.
