 Sixth Sunday

after Epiphany

 Sentence

 Blessed are you when people hate you on account of the Son of man. Rejoice and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven.

Luke 6.23

Collect Epiphany 6

Righteous God,

you challenge the powers that rule this world

and you show favour to the oppressed:

instil in us a true sense of justice,

that we may discern the signs of your kingdom

and strive for right to prevail;

for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Prayer of the Week

 Let your merciful ears, O Lord,

be open to the prayers of your humble servants;

and that they may obtain their petitions

make them to ask such things as shall please you;

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Liturgy:  via PowerPoint + APBA   Colour – Green

Readings: Jeremiah 17.5-10;     Ps 1;       I Corinthians 15.12-20;       Luke 6. 17-26

Fr Peter writes:

As we face the challenges in building up the people of God in this place, let us be open to God’s presence and the transforming power of God in our lives as we review the past year at our AGM and prepare to receive our new priest. God is calling us all to new things.

Our gospel reading continues the account of the call and formation of the apostles. Jesus has spent some time with the chosen 12 but then he comes down from the mountain and is met by a crowd. ‘They had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; and those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured. And all in the crowd were trying to touch him, for power came out from him and healed all of them (Luke 6:17-19) Jesus, looking at his disciples, taught them that when times were hard, he wanted to bless them but when all was going well there was a danger of complacency. The gospel message is not only comfort for the disturbed but also to disturb the comfortable! What is the message you need to hear at this time?

May you hear the message you need and may the Holy Spirit inspire and empower you for the year ahead.

Yours in the household of God,

Peter+

Meditation - a weekly thought

Henri Nouwen writes "Compassion is the fruit of solitude, the basis of all ministry. In solitude the roots of all conflict, war,  injustice, cruelty, hatred, jealousy and envy are deeply anchored in our own heart. And when we stop judging our neighbours, stop evaluating them, we become free to be compassionate." We can change. Change is all around us. May we listen to God in the silence.

Labyrinth Message

This week's labyrinth message for you to "walk with" is : When we look afresh at Jesus's blessings / Beatitudes ...What an "upside down" world they set before us !?!

In this week's Gospel, Jesus invites us to join in with His way of looking at things rather than in our " usual way" [ often deeply embedded within our own self importance, fears, insecurities and striving for success, preferment, prestige, power and control over our own lives .. and often others too ]. I wonder if you may see something or someone different as you go through your week… as you try to look more through Heaven's Eyes ? [ Perhaps this song from Prince of Egypt may help? see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oG0a9WFkgzU ]

Prayers of the people   Prepared by Jan

Creator God, who fashioned each element of our world and saw that it was good, help us to be trustworthy caretakers of your creation. We offer our praise and thanks to you as we daily marvel at your amazing works. We thank you for rain received and the seasonal changes of the Earth.

Grant that every member of the church may truly and humbly serve you;

that your name may be glorified by everyone.

Holy God, who established your dwelling place amongst your people, open our eyes and our hearts to daily seek to do your will. We pray for the world-wide Anglican Communion especially in areas of conflict. We pray for Archbishop Philip, Regional Bishop John, our locum priest Father Peter and for our much awaited priest Father Tom and his family that your will may be done in all things.

Grant that every member of the church may truly and humbly serve you;

that your name may be glorified by everyone.

Father God, you so loved the people of your world, that you sent your only Son to show us that love by dying for the sins of each of us. May we share the love and teachings of your Son, Jesus Christ, with those around us each day.

Grant that every member of the church may truly and humbly serve you;

that your name may be glorified by everyone.

Caring God, we pray for our world currently afflicted by the COVID virus. May life-saving vaccines be delivered to all countries. We pray for all who are sick and suffering. We especially pray for all the nurses and carers in Aged Care Homes, that we may come to value and truly appreciate the work performed daily by each of them. We pray for all elderly persons being kept in isolation for their physical safety. May they feel your loving presence with them always.

Grant that every member of the church may truly and humbly serve you;

that your name may be glorified by everyone.

Loving God, we thank you for all those who lived their lives reflecting your love and who are now dwelling with you for eternity. We especially remember those whose Year’s mind occurs at this time.

Grant that every member of the church may truly and humbly serve you;

that your name may be glorified by everyone.

Almighty God, you have promised to hear our prayers.

Grant that what we have asked in faith we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer points from Tom: We uphold Tom and his family -  wife, Amy, and four children: Matthew (13), Sophie and Adam (9 - twins) and Bee (8months). We give thanks that the three eldest children will be able to enrol at the local schools when they arrive, which is a big weight lifted off their shoulders!

We pray for a good ending to his job and their life in the UK and that the visas come through soon!

Year’s Mind Anniversaries this month:

Ces Fritz, Myrtle Hollings, Christine Parker

Thank You

A big thank you to Peta T, Kristy and Yvonne for their cleaning efforts while we are without a cleaner and in dealing with the dreaded mould in the toilet building.

February Retiring Collection: Bush Ministry Fund

The Bush Ministry Fund (BMF) was established in 1998 to provide support for struggling parishes and clergy in the Western Region of the Anglican Church Southern Queensland. The aim of BMF is to maintain a caring ministry to families who live in towns and on properties in rural and remote area. Through these grants clergy can visit any property and are available to offer care and spiritual support, not only to Anglicans, but to anybody who seeks assistance in the community.

The BMF raises funds for ministry in the Western Region and encourages prayer. The money raised is primarily used to help parishes pay for the provision of ordained ministers, mostly in the form of stipends.
