Sentence for the Day

‘Those who love me will keep my word,’ Jesus promises, ‘and my Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.’

John 14.23

Collect of the Day

O God,

you have prepared for those who love you

joys beyond our understanding:

pour into our hearts such love for you,

that, loving you above all else,

we may obtain your promises

that exceed all we can desire;

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Collect of Commitment

Quicken, O Lord, we pray you,

all members of your church,

that we may be alive to the opportunities and responsibilities of our times.

Save us from complacency and from fear of new ways;

inspire our minds with the hope of your kingdom;

give us joy in what lies before us; and stir our wills to pray and to work until your will is done on earth as it is in heaven.

Liturgy:  via PowerPoint + APBA   Colour – White

Readings: Acts 17.22-31; Psalm 66.7-19; 1 Peter 3.8-22; John 14.15-21

We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh Nation, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today.

A note from Helen

Noah’s Ark; fact or fiction, true account or metaphor; the story tells us about God’s efforts to save the faithful and ensure that creation survived.  For the animals (human and other) the ark provided protection and safety.  Peter, in his letter, makes a profound point when he compares church baptism to Noah’s ark - because our churches should be a place of refuge, safety, and salvation to all who come.  A ‘life boat’, and ‘shelter from the storm’.  While the waters of the flood brought death and destruction, the waters of baptism bring new life, protection from danger, and a shelter in the storm.  1 Peter 3:8-22

Intercessions - using ‘Clouds and Glory’ by David Adams

Lord Jesus, you have promised to be with us for ever; teach us to rejoice in your presence, free us from all anxiety, help us to know you are always at hand, that we may work with you and to your glory, Jesus our Lord, who with the Father and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns for ever.

Lord, in you we live and move and have our being, for we are your children, and you are not far from any one of us.  We pray for all who are being prepared for baptism, and that we with them may know that we dwell in you and you in us.  We pray for Christians who are struggling in lonely or difficult places, for all who feel forsaken, for all who are longing to know your love.  We pray for all who seek to do your will and fulfil your commandments.

Lord, you abide in us. May we know we abide in you.

We pray for countries where laws are being flouted.  We pray for nations and peoples who are in danger of destroying themselves or others.  We remember areas of civil strife, areas where people are misused or abused.  We pray for all who seek to live in simplicity, gentleness and reverence, for all who suffer for doing good.

Lord, you abide in us. May we know we abide in you.

By your indwelling presence make our hearts and our homes places of peace.  We pray for peace in our communities, for peace in our relationships, that your peace may spread throughout our world.

Lord, you abide in us. May we know we abide in you.

We pray for all who are captives to superstition or ignorance, for all who have no knowledge of God, for all whose lives are empty, or filled with the wrong things.  We remember before you all whose lives are falling apart, all who are entering into darkness or sickness, that each in their weakness may know your strength and we especially pray for ……………………..

Lord, you abide in us. May we know we abide in you.

Lord, if we abide in you and you are in us, we are already in the fullness of that life which is eternal.  We rejoice in your presence, and pray for loved ones and friends who have gone before us, especially …………….

Lord, you abide in us. May we know we abide in you.

Almighty God, grant that what we have asked in faith we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
