YOU HAVE TO STOP

So, unfortunately I missed out on the fun of the fundraising luncheon at St Luke’s last Sunday, and I also missed out on our church services too. I apologise for that but just hours before our first service of the day I tested positive for COVID so I had to stay home.

Testing positive for COVID is like a red-light on the road. You may have plans to be somewhere, you may be busy, but you have to stop.

In this Sunday’s services I will be present but only digitally (and maybe in spirit too!) I have pre-recorded a video sermon for this Sunday.

The sermon will look at the Gospel reading of the day which is all about Mary and Martha. When Jesus came to their house Martha got incredibly busy cleaning, preparing food, serving drinks, and hosting her guest. Mary took the opposite approach and totally stopped. She sat in the presence of the Son of God and was inspired and energised in His presence.

We can all be like Martha, we can all be too busy and sometimes something like COVID comes along and forces us to stop. Jesus’ words to Mary and Martha remind us that maybe that’s no bad thing. Jesus encourages us to be like Mary and in the middle of the busyness of life take time to stop.

Are you making time to stop even if you don’t have to?

Please do! In the midst of the busyness of life, please make sure you take time to stop and be inspired and energised by God – whether that’s at a church service, over a meal with friends, or out in the beauty of God’s creation.

Don’t worry about how busy you are, stop for God.

Tom

This week’s intercessions: Prepared by Peta

This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

We thank you, Heavenly Father, for the days you gift to us and for all you give us. We thank you for the earth and its resources which sustain us. Help us to honour your precious creation through our living sustainably. We pray for those places suffering through drought or flood or earthquake.

This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

We thank you, Heavenly Father, for your church throughout the world and for the worldwide Anglican Communion. In this Diocese we pray for the work of your servants Phillip and John, and in this parish for Tom, Allan and John. We pray for Parish Council and for all in our parish who work to spread your kingdom, to bring people together in your love, and to sustain the life of St George’s and St Luke’s.
This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
We thank you, Heavenly Father, that we can access clean water, food, shelter and health care, when so many in our community can’t. We bring before you the poor, those who are homeless, those who are sick, those who are grieving. We pray especially for ... and those known to us whom we name aloud or in the silence of our hearts……….

This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

We thank you, Heavenly Father, for all who have gone before us in your love. We thank you for your servant Mary Magdalene whose special day falls this coming week. We thank you that you keep a place for each of us with you in heaven at the end of our earthly lives.

This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Almighty God, you have promised to hear our prayers.

Grant that what we have asked in faith we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Religious Education Books for Canungra State School

Students of Canungra State School have the privilege of receiving Religious Instruction once a week. Each student receives two workbooks for the year which are used during lesson time. The teachers also receive a Teachers Manual. Thus, we have an outlay of around $1000 per year. Religious Instruction is an important ministry as this is the only time the kids get to hear he Word of God. Please help this worthy cause. (We are also still looking for an instructor as some classes are currently missing out)

Thanks from St Luke’s

It was truly enjoyable to share a meal with so many of our extended church family last Sunday. Our thanks go out to all who supported this St Luke’s Guild Fundraising event, both in attendance and in providing the meal and entertainment.
