‘I am the light of the world,’ says the Lord;
‘those who follow me will have the light of life.’
John 8.12
Collect
Gracious God,
out of your love and mercy
you breathed into dust the breath of life,
creating us to serve you and one another:
call forth our penitence and acts of love,
and strengthen us to face our mortality,
so that we may look with confidence for your salvation;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen..
Liturgy: via PowerPoint + APBA Colour – Violet
Readings: 1 Samuel 16.1-13; Psalm 23; Ephesians 5.8-14; John 9.1-41
We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh Nation, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today.
A note from Helen
When Jesus comes into your life and changes things around, life can get a bit confusing. Not necessarily just for you either, but for everyone around you. In today’s gospel, Jesus heals a man in response to a question posed by his disciples about the cause of the man’s blindness – did he sin or his parents. But when the man becomes sighted, his community fails to recognise him, his parents know it is his son but distance themselves from ‘becoming involved’ in the authority’s search for answers to how it is that he now sees. And frustrated by a lack of clarity, the authorities drive the man out of the community. When Jesus finds the man, he confirms the healing, the new identity, and abundant life. When our lives are changed by Jesus, we sometimes face the same challenges – friends, and maybe even family, fail to accept the change and continue, or insist, on still responding to us as the person we used to be. But Jesus will always seek us out, affirm the changes in our lives, affirm our new identity and invite us into rich and abundant lives.

This week’s intercessions: Prepared by Keith S
We pray for the peoples of the world: for all whose lives are shattered by warfare and violence; for victims of incompetent and corrupt government; for leaders of nations, for our state and federal politicians; and for those who minister the law.
Jesus, Light of the World: hear our prayer.
We pray, heavenly Father, for your church: for all our sisters and brothers in Christ; for theologians, teachers and theological students; for those inquiring about faith, and for all who seek the truth.
Jesus, Light of the World: hear our prayer.
We pray for the communities in which we live: for our families, our neighbours and our friends; for our Parish family; for all who live in this area, especially those without food or shelter; and for the overworked and the underemployed.
Jesus, Light of the World: hear our prayer.
We pray for all who are in trouble or need: for the sad and broken-hearted; the lonely and the friendless; for the sick and dying, especially for those who ask for our prayer …..
Jesus, Light of the World: hear our prayer.
We give you thanks for your holy people of every age and for your faithful people of this parish whose yearly remembrance occurs at this time.
Jesus, Light of the World: hear our prayer.
We offer these our prayers: Jesus, Light of the World.
(The prayers are inspired and extracted from ‘Let us Pray’ by Janet Nelson.)
