Collect for Australia Day
Bounteous God,
we give thanks for this ancient and beautiful land,
a land of despair and hope,
a land of wealth and abundant harvests,
a land of fire, drought and flood.
We pray that your Spirit may continue to move in this land
and bring forgiveness, reconciliation,
and an end to all injustice;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Collect for the Third Sunday after Epiphany
Life-giving God,
who sent your Son Jesus to proclaim your kingdom
and to teach with authority:
anoint us with your Spirit,
that we too may bring good news to the poor,
bind up the broken-hearted,
and proclaim liberty to the captive;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Liturgy: via PowerPoint + APBA Colour – Green
Readings: Nehemiah 8.1-3,5-6, 8-10; Ps 19; I Corinthians 12.12-31; Luke 4.14-21
Fr Peter writes:
During the reconstruction of the temple, a book containing the Law of God was found and when it was read to the people of God it moved them. ‘This day is holy to the Lord your God; do not mourn or weep,’ proclaimed the teachers. ‘Go your way, eat the fat and drink sweet wine and send portions of them to those for whom nothing is prepared, for this day is holy to our Lord; and do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.’ (Nehemiah 8:1-3, 5-6, 8-10). Put the past behind and move forward in the strength of the Lord.
Writing to the Corinthians Paul teaches that we are each individual parts of the body of Christ and each member has its own task to perform. (1 Corinthians 12:12-31) Many parts of the one body.
When Jesus taught in the synagogue, he unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written: ‘The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.’ (Luke 4: 17-19)
I pray Australia Day will remind us that we are part of a long history of people in this land. Let us be open and honest and include the traditional custodians of this land. We will do so in our worship today and I invite you to join a nationally simulcast service, led by Aboriginal Christian leaders, Tuesday 25th January @ 6.30 pm (Qld time), as we approach 26th January. It is an opportunity for our nation to come together in the spirit of truth-telling, lament for injustices faced by First Nations peoples, renew our commitment to action, pray, and reflect. Watch from you own home, join with others at a local screening, or host your own screening with friends. Follow this link: #ChangeTheHeart this January 25 2022 - Common Grace

Labyrinth Message
This week's labyrinth message for you to "walk with" is : Often during these uncertain times our focus may narrow to looking out for ourselves and our families… and that's perfectly right [and understandable] to do this. But, as we approach Australia Day, what of others in our nation and community who may not be so fortunate?
In this week's Gospel, Jesus reminds us that the Good News is inexorably intertwined with Divine Grace to direct and empower our efforts, Charity [putting agape love into action] and social justice. I wonder what action we may be called to take that will help some fellow Aussie(s) who are poor, imprisoned, disabled, sick or oppressed? Perhaps the one step you take this week may lead to a wider blessing through your life for others [and yourself too] ?

Prayers of the people Prepared by Peta
If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
Our heavenly Father, we thank you for your love and for the work of your hands which you gift to us: your precious gift of your son, our saviour Jesus Christ, who died in his love for us; and your gifts of the earth, its waters, landscapes, creatures and plants. Help us to cherish all that you give us.
We thank you for the leadership and commitment of your loving servants: Archbishop Phillip, Bishop John, Father Peter, Father Tom in Bristol, and our parish council. We are your people; write on our hearts how we might serve you and your church in this place more intentionally this coming year. We hold in our hearts Christians who suffer because of their faith; remind us, who are free to worship you, to continue to give lovingly to your church of our time, talents and means.
If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love,
I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
Our Lord Jesus Christ, we hear your commandment to love one another. Forgive us when we are imperfect and struggle to do your will. We pray for one another; we bring before you those suffering through the pandemic, the volcanic eruption and devastation in Tonga, through starvation in Afghanistan, and the needless brutality that we see in the world around us. Help us to uphold and support one another and all those in need in our own neighbourhoods, in our parish, and in the world, all those experiencing loss and fear, illness and pain, rejection and poverty, especially those known to us whom we name aloud or in the silence of our hearts: …...(a period of time to pray)
If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love,
I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
Eternal God, we give thanks for all those who have gone before us, who tried to live their lives in your name. We especially give thanks for the inspiration and faithfulness of your Apostle Paul, who shepherded the people of God in Corinth.
We remember with love those whose year's mind occurs at this time and we ask your blessing on those who mourn. We are comforted knowing we will continue to share in your love when our time on earth is done.
If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. Paul says: “And now faith, hope and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love. Pursue love..”
Lord, we ask that you hear our prayers and bless your people. Amen.

January Retiring Collection: School Chaplaincy Mount Tamborine and Canungra
On behalf of chaplaincy, thank you for your ongoing support.
I request your prayers for school chaplaincy on the Mountain and at Canungra. The current situation is that two of the four schools have decided to no longer use the government grant funds to support chaplaincy and new chaplains are needed for the two other schools, St Bernard's and Canungra. We do pray that it may be possible to provide some chaplaincy input to the other two schools.
Also because of Covid the chaplaincy committee has been very much depleted.
If you would like to meet fortnightly for a couple of hours of prayer for a while, then monthly, in an ongoing way please see me. I will also be asking for this support from other churches. Rev John LCC (Local Chaplaincy Committee) Chair
