Collect of the Day

Saving God,

in Jesus Christ you opened for us a new and living way into your presence:

give us pure hearts

and constant wills to worship you in spirit and in truth;

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Liturgy:  via PowerPoint + APBA   Colour – Green

Readings: Genesis 28.10-19a; Psalm 139.1-11, 23-24; Romans 8.12-25;

     Matthew 13. 24-30,36-43

We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh Nation, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today.

A note from Helen

“Surely God was in this place, and I did not know it.”  Jacob finds himself in a ‘thin place’ where heaven and earth are joined, and angels are ascending and descending on a ladder to the heavens.  (notice they ‘ascend’ to heaven).  The earth is full of divinity, and it has its own angels.  God is not ‘far off’ or ‘trapped’ in a far-off heaven.  Divinity is on earth as it is in heaven.  We do not need to go to heaven to find God, because heaven is in this place.  Psalm 139 assures us there is no place where God is not.  Even when we ‘run away’ and ‘try to hide’ we cannot go anywhere where God is not, and we will find ourselves running into God’s hands.  Jacob’s encounter with holiness comes through pure grace.  We all occasionally have ‘Damascus Road’ experiences where, through grace, we find ourselves being in those ‘thin places’ where heaven and earth meet and we are touched by the presence of God.

NOTICES

Gwen Curtis turns 100 and you are invited to join her for that celebration August 12 from 10am in the Georgian Room.  Please share the news with all you know who know Gwen, as she will be here from her new residence down the mountain and it would be a great opportunity to share in this momentous occasion with her.

Intercessions – prepared by Jan A

God of all creation, we praise you and worship you. We thank you for the abundance and variety of plant and animal life in our world. As part of your creation we thank you for each human life and pray that we may show your love to all. Help us to not judge others by their outward appearance, but to remember how precious each soul is to you.

Creator God, hear our prayer

and make us one in heart and mind to serve you with joy forever.

Everlasting God, we pray for all those in authority in your church both locally and worldwide. We pray for our Bishop Administrator, Cameron, our regional bishop, John and for our priest, Helen. In all our endeavours as a church community may we declare that truly, “The Lord is in this place.”

All powerful God, hear our prayer

and make us one in heart and mind to serve you with joy forever.

God of love, who sent your son to die for the sins of all, help us to care for those in need in our community. Help us to be your hands showing love and acceptance. Help us to show your presence in our lives by the love we show. May we be led by the Spirit that all our deeds may be to your glory.

Loving God, hear our prayer.

and make us one in heart and mind to serve you with joy forever.

Welcoming God, we thank you for your promise of salvation, that all who love and serve you may dwell in the House of the Lord forever. We thank you for the love and example of those who have left their earthly being behind and now abide with you. Especially we remember those whose year’s mind occurs at this time. Comfort those who mourn the painful loss of loved ones.

Faithful God, hear our prayer

and make us one in heart and mind to serve you with joy forever.

(Prayer for a new bishop) Rev’d Helen.

Almighty God, you have promised to hear our prayers. Grant that what we have asked in faith we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
