Sentence for the Day
Neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8.38–39
Collect of the Day
O God, the fount of wisdom,
you have revealed to us in Christ
the hidden treasure and the pearl of great price:
grant us your Spirit’s gift of discernment,
that, in the midst of the things of this world,
we may learn to value the priceless worth of your kingdom,
and be ready to renounce all else
for the sake of the precious gift you offer.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Liturgy: via PowerPoint + APBA Colour – Green
Readings:
Genesis 29.15-28; Psalm 105.1-11; Romans 8.26-39; Matthew 13. 44-58
We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh Nation, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today.
A note from Helen
Faith is often challenging to us and can be poorly understood by others. In the parable of the hidden treasures, Jesus tells us that a man found treasure, hid it again and then sold everything he had to buy the land. This may sound shrewd to some, but others see him as dishonest and conniving. The pearl trader who sees a large pearl he desires, and then sells all his other pearls to buy this one seems foolish to many. Effectively he has taken himself ‘out of the market’, as he no longer has the resources to keep trading. But there is a subtle message in these parables. The Gospel of God will take hold of your life and totally rearrange your priorities. The Gospel is also good news only to those who are not satisfied with their current lives, because if you are contented, then you are not interested in ‘risking your life’ for anything else. Faith is about seeing – seeing something others do not see, seeing something the world does not value. Faith is not about knowledge, but about trust, trust that leads you to act and speak differently, like you have a secret few know. Today’s gospel gives us a promise – God’s disruptive, life-changing, and life-giving kingdom is coming. We will need patience and trust to await it, and it may not be anything like what we expect when it arrives, but it will invade, take over and transform our lives.

Intercessions – prepared by Anne
Almighty God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit: You taught us to pray not only for ourselves but for people everywhere: so now hear us as we pray for others, in the name of Jesus Christ our Saviour and Lord.
We pray for our nation and our local community. Guide us in good and right ways; lead us to reflect your kingdom’s values in all we are and do. And we pray for our world, with all its difficulties: May poverty be overcome by generosity; hunger by compassion; disease by caring; and war by peace. We pray for your church: St. Luke’s and St. George’s to be a colony of heaven on earth, that brings You honour and not shame by what we do and say.
Your kingdom come, your will be done.
Holy God, we pray for our Parish especially, for Helen our priest who is to be commissioned as our priest-in-charge this coming Saturday afternoon; for readers, the wardens and all those who serve on Parish Council. Thank you too for those who provide music, hospitality; those who assist, serve, read and pray.
Your kingdom come, your will be done.
Mighty God, we thank you for your love and compassion for all who suffer in body, mind and spirit. We pray that your healing presence will calm their fears, ease their pain and bring light into the darkness of all who are sick especially……………….. We ask that you be with us, and all who need your loving touch at this time.
Your kingdom come, your will be done.
Almighty and eternal God, from whose love in Christ we cannot be parted, either by death or life: hear our prayers and thanksgivings for all whom we remember this day; ………………….fulfil in them the purpose of your love; and bring us all, with them, to your eternal joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Your kingdom come, your will be done.
Gracious God, hear these prayers we offer you in his name. By the power of your Holy Spirit work within us and among us to bring your kingdom into this world. Let your will be done so that all people may live only for your praise and glory.
Your kingdom come, your will be done.
Prayer for a new Archbishop – Rev’d Helen.
Almighty God, you have promised to hear our prayers. Grant that what we have asked in faith we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
