Collect

Almighty God,

whose Son fasted forty days in the wilderness,

and was tempted as we are, yet did not sin:

give us grace to direct our lives in obedience to your will,

that, as you know our weakness,

so we may know your power to save;

through Jesus Christ our Redeemer,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever. Amen.

A note from Helen

Today we read about ‘the Fall’, a story surrounded by conjecture and seemingly contributing to the subjection of women to men.  But, in big picture terminology, this story marks and acknowledges a simple truth, we ‘stuff up’, we sin, we get it wrong, we let God, ourselves and others down through our actions.  This story closes the door on the first part of the story of the world and opens the door to the next part, the Creator becoming Redeemer to redeem the world by undoing the effects of the Fall and restoring the world to what God intended the world to be – the perfect fellowship between God and humanity and between human people.

This week’s intercessions: Prepared by Keith S

Ever-present God, we pray for the nations of the world, for all people in places of danger, violence and temptation. We pray for those places where there is conflict, particularly in the Ukraine. We pray for those who are hungry and homeless, particularly those devastated by earthquakes in Turkiye and Syria.

Ever-present God: hear our prayer.

We pray for the church, for all communities of faith throughout the world, for those who worship in this place, for John, our bishop and Helen, our priest - and for all who minister in your name.

Ever-present God: hear our prayer.

We pray for all who are anxious or without hope, the lonely and friendless, the sick and the dying - particularly praying for ……And we pray for those who love and care and support them.

Ever-present God: hear our prayer.

We remember your faithful servants of every age, those from this parish …… and those whom we love who are now in your eternal presence.

Ever-present God: hear our prayer.

(Prayers are inspired and sourced from ‘Let us Pray’ by Janet Nelson, pp 88-89.)

Almighty God, you have promised to hear our prayers, Grant that what we have asked in faith we may by your Grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Cats of Jerusalem: ebook by Keith Slater

Recently I published this children’s picture story book on Amazon as an ebook. The wonderful illustrations are by Susanne Duncan. It tells the story of Jesus riding into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday through the eyes of the cats of Jerusalem. It is written for 3-8 year olds. As we enter Lent and approach Palm Sunday you might like to share it with your young children or grandchildren.     Keith Slater
