Transfiguration

Sentence

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory,

the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth.

John 1.14

Collect Transfiguration

O God, glorious and faithful,

you reveal the beauty of your face

to those who seek you with a sincere heart:

strengthen us in faith

to embrace the mystery of the cross,

and open our hearts to its transforming power,

so that, clinging in love to your will for us,

we may walk as followers of your Son,

Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Prayer from our Archbishop (APBA p202)

God of the nations,

whose sovereign rule brings justice and peace,

have mercy on our broken and divided world.

Shed abroad your peace in the hearts of all

and banish from them the spirit that makes for war,

that all races and peoples may learn to live

as members of one family and in obedience to your law,

through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Fr Peter writes:

We conclude our Epiphany Season recalling the Transfiguration. Jesus takes Peter, James and John up the mountain to pray and while there the glory of God is revealed in his face and clothes and Moses and Elijah are seen with him discussing his departure from them. This brings together the Law of Moses and the prophetic voice, the traditions of Judaism. They also hear a voice that said ’This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!’

Jesus brings together the traditions of the past and embodies them in the teachings and actions of Jesus during his earthly presence.

How are we bringing light into our world today? How do we live in Christ and allow Christ in us to shine forth in our lives and our community?

Lent gives us the opportunity to reflect, repent and grow as the people of God, the body of Christ. Amen. So be it!

Yours in the household of God, Peter+

Labyrinth Message

This week's labyrinth message for you to "walk with" is : Have you ever had a "Mountaintop spiritual experience" ? If so, I wonder when and where that occurred ? What was happening in your life at that time ? If not, is this something that you would wish to experience?

n this week's Gospel, we are reminded that these "epiphanies" can often be provided unexpectedly. But, sometimes we may need to "invest" our time and effort to first climb the mountain to receive it. I wonder what fresh Divine paradigm or insight we may receive this week ?… Will we make the space to seek, stop and notice it ?...and then accept the Divine invitation that lies within ?

Prayers of the people   Prepared by John Noble

As we celebrate the Feast of the Transfiguration, let us pray that God’s glory will be revealed to us afresh, as it was to those 3 disciples on the mountain.
Lord, in your mercy.....Hear our prayer.

Let us thank God for the peace and prosperity in which we live here in Australia, and we pray for all those places around the world which are affected by civil strife and violence. In particular, we remember all those living in Ukraine who fear for their future if a Russian invasion takes place, and we pray for world leaders who are trying to negotiate a peaceful settlement in that country.

Lord, in your mercy.....Hear our prayer.

We pray for our Anglican church here in Australia and the wider church throughout the world, in particular for church leaders, our Archbishop Philip, regional bishop John, our locum priest Peter, and for our future priest Tom and his family, as they prepare to come and live with us.

Lord, in your mercy.....Hear our prayer.

We thank God for our health and strength, and our ability to enjoy all God’s gifts to us, and we pray for all who at this time are suffering short-term or long-term illnesses, particularly those affected by the Covid pandemic. We pray for all places of healing and treatment, and everyone who works there, doctors, nurses and other medical staff, and we thank God for their dedication and devotion to their patients. In particular today we pray for......

Lord, in your mercy.....Hear our prayer.

We pray for our local community, all those who live and work here, those who provide our daily needs which so often we just take for granted. We pray for all who have been affected by the recent heavy rains and that any losses they have suffered may be quickly recovered.

Lord, in your mercy.....Hear our prayer.

We remember with thanks all those who have been influential in our lives but are no longer with us, particularly those whose years mind occurs at this time.

Almighty God, you have promised to hear our prayers, Grant that what we have asked in faith we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Prayer points from Tom: We uphold Tom and his family -  wife, Amy, and four children: Matthew, Sophie and Adam, and Bee. We give thanks that the three eldest children will be able to enrol at the local schools when they arrive,

We pray for a good ending to jobs and life in the UK and for visas!

Meditation Thought

James 3 talks about “all the harm the tongue can do”. What he is saying is, if you can’t control your tongue, then you haven’t really begun to control your mind either. There’s the tongue, which is part of the body, but there is also the silence of the body, which is why we sit still in meditation, why we are careful with the noises we make during the time of meditation. If you can’t control your mind, you are not going to be able to move into that level of spirit, the silence of the spirit.

National Church Life Survey Our parish is participating in this survey and will endeavour to complete the questionnaire this Sunday 28th February after the service.  Your assistance in having all surveys completed as soon as possible would be appreciated as we are nearing the deadline of when they are to be returned.

February Retiring Collection: Bush Ministry Fund The BMF raises funds for ministry in the Western Region and encourages prayer. The money raised is primarily used to help parishes pay for the provision of ordained ministers, mostly in the form of stipends.
