We are a Christian faith community living in the way of Christ accepting and welcoming all in loving service, growing Christ’s future on Earth.
Sentence for the Day
‘Let anyone who is thirsty come to me,’ says the Lord; ‘and let the one who believes in me drink. For out of your heart shall flow rivers of living water.’
John 7.38
Collect of the Day
Almighty God,
at the feast of Pentecost
you sent your Holy Spirit to the disciples,
filling them with joy and boldness to preach the gospel:
empower us with that same Spirit
to witness to your redeeming love
and draw all people to you;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Collect of Commitment
Abundant God, you made us in your image and breathed in us a spirit of generosity that is both gift and response. Move us, we pray, to give as we have received–abundantly, generously, and joyfully that our common ministry may ever bear witness to your unfailing grace. In the name of the Three in whom we are One,
Amen.
Liturgy: via PowerPoint + APBA Colour – Red

We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh Nation, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today.
A note from Helen
Today, we appear to have two ‘Pentecosts’. In our Acts reading we find rushing wind and tongues of fire coming into the room where the disciples are ‘waiting’ as Jesus instructed them before his ascension. And then, led by Peter, they all go out into the crowd and ‘speak’ in many different languages so that everyone understands. Our Gospel reading has Jesus appearing on the day of his resurrection to the disciples in a locked room and offering ‘peace be upon you’ to them and breathing the Spirit upon them.
Some may see contradiction in these two differing stories but I don’t see it that way. There is no reason why we should see the coming of the Spirit as a ‘one time only’ event. We receive the Spirit in our lives in different ways and at different times, so why should we not afford the disciples the same experience. Luke and John are describing for us a truly inspiring experience where the disciples are transformed for mission. For Luke, the disciples are empowered with courage and power which cannot be explained in ‘layman’s terms’ enabling them to share the story of Jesus with people from different language groups and nations. John’s account is the first time Jesus appears to the disciples after his resurrection and he is preparing them to continue his ministry to the world.
Today’s readings give us visions of Pentecostal transformation: one gentle and simple as breathing; the other dramatic and ‘life-shattering’. But both provide us with God’s spirit taking us beyond the familiar and challenging the limits that we place on reality and hospitality. Our readings flow around the words ‘receive the Holy Spirit’. So let us receive it, breathe it in, allow it to fill us. Be transformed; God’s spirit is with us, and she will revive us, and her winds will take us toward God’s new horizons that beckon both you and me.

Intercessions – prepared by Peta
Heavenly Father, on this day that your son, risen from death, stood among his disciples, we bring our prayers before you.
We pray for our world, for the health of its waters and soils and climates which sustain us. We give you thanks for all the gifts you give us, for our abilities and talents which we can use in your service and in the service of others.
The disciples rejoiced when they saw the lord. Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you.
As the Father has sent me, so I send you.’
We pray for your church in this place and across the world. We pray for your servants Helen, John and Allan who minister in our parish, for those that support their ministry: Delma, John, Barbara, Kristie, Sophia, Anne, Sue, Charlotte, Lisa and Raelene, for the small group leadership and witness of Jan, Keith, Gisela and Barbara, and for all who bake, wrap bread, garden, paint, type and clean behind the scenes to grow Christ’s kingdom.
When he had said this he breathed on them and said to them:
‘Receive the Holy Spirit.’
We pray for those who need our love and prayers, for the sick and frail, for those struggling to live in dignity. We pray for those in parts of the world torn apart by chaos and war, famine and deprivation.
The disciples rejoiced when they saw the lord. Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you.
As the Father has sent me, so I send you.’
When he had said this he breathed on them and said to them:
‘Receive the Holy Spirit.’
We give thanks for all those who have gone before us, who received your Holy Spirit and lived their lives in your service and in the service of others.
Heavenly Father, we thank you for your sustaining gift of the Holy Spirit. Hear the prayers of your faithful people, and Grant that what we have asked in faith, we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
