Sentence for the Day

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: you shall love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Matthew 22.37–40

Collect of the Day

O God,

whose Son has taught us that love is the fulfilment of your law:

stir up within us the fire of your Holy Spirit,

and pour into our hearts your greatest gift of love,

so that we may love you with our whole being,

and our neighbours as ourselves;

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Liturgy:  via PowerPoint + APBA   Colour – Green

Readings:

Deuteronomy 34.1–12; Psalm 90.1–6, 90.13–17; 1 Thessalonians 2.1–13; Matthew 22.34–46

We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh Nation, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today.

A note from Helen

What do you think your legacy will be.  Our readings today point us ‘beyond self  toward identification with God’s Self and the well-being of others long after we are no longer here.  Moses has travelled long and hard as he brought the people to the verge of their new homeland, but he would never set foot on this promised land.  Martin Luther was once asked what he would do if he was told the world would end tomorrow, and he said, ”I would plant a tree”.  We are all creating the future by what we do in the present.  Out actions today will bear fruit we may never see, but that should not stop us from doing what we do.  Even though we may never enjoy or see the fruits of our creation, we can still shape the future, and that is the point.  Hope enables us to trust that God will use our limited lives as contributors to an everlasting adventure.  We do something beautiful for God that will outlast our small lifetimes.

Intercessions – prepared by John N

In our prayers today let us first thank God for the wonderful world in which we live, for the heavens above and the earth beneath, and for all the natural beauty around us if only we open our eyes to notice it. May we remember that we are but guardians of God’s creation and we must preserve and use it wisely for those who will come after us.

Lord, in your mercy....Hear our prayer.

We thank God for the peace and prosperity in which we live her in Australia and pray for all those places around the world where there is conflict, civil strife, oppression of minorities and corruption in governments. Particularly we pray for all those suffering in the Middle East and Ukraine, for all who have lost family members, their homes and loved ones and those who have been forced to flee to other countries as refugees. We pray for all who are working to provide relief and supplies to those who so urgently need it.

Lord, in your mercy....Hear our prayer.

We pray for our Anglican Church throughout the world, and for all its leaders as they seek ways to promote the Gospel among increasingly secular populations. We pray for our Archbishop elect, our regional bishop John, our priest Helen, our parish council and all who work in our parish day by day. We pray for church organisations such as Anglicare and other volunteers as they provide help to those most in need, the homeless, those suffering financial difficulties and others with family problems.

Lord, in your mercy....Hear our prayer.

We thank God for our health and strength and pray for all who are no longer able to continue their lives as they would like due to illness or long-term medical problems. We pray for all places of healing and treatment, hospitals, clinics and all those who care for those unable to look after themselves in their own homes, or in residential accommodation. Today we pray particularly for........... We thank God for the lives of those whom we have known, and are no longer with us, particularly.......

Lord, in your mercy....Hear our prayer.

We pray for our local communities, on the Mountain and around Canungra, for all who work to provide us with our daily needs. The emergency services, those who work in shops and offices, those in volunteer organisations, and for all schools, their teachers and pupils, that wisdom may be taught as well as knowledge.

Lord, in your mercy....Hear our prayer.

Prayer for Archbishop-elect Jeremy – Rev’d Helen.

Almighty God, you have promised to hear our prayers, Grant that what we have asked in faith we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord
