Sentence for the Day

Now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face.

Now I know only in part; then I will know fully,

even as I have been fully known.

1 Corinthians 13.14

Collect

Righteous God,

you confound the world’s wisdom

by giving your blessing to the lowly and pure in heart:

give us such a hunger and thirst for justice

and perseverance in striving for peace,

that in our words and deeds

the world may see the promise of your kingdom,

which has been revealed in Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Liturgy:  via PowerPoint + APBA   Colour – Green

Readings:

Micah 6.1-8; Ps 15; 1 Corinthians 1.18-31; Matthew 5.1-12

We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh Nation, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today.

A note from Helen

It is said that the role of a prophet is to ‘disturb the comfortable, and comfort the disturbed’.  Having prophesied that God’s judgement would be swift and terrible, Micah gives comfort that not all would be destroyed, a remnant will remain.  And he then reminds Israel (and us) of the nature of true religion – which consists of inner transformation.  ‘What does the Lord require of you? To act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God’.  And he also reminds Israel of the never-ending grace of God.  God pardons sin and forgives transgressions; God shows mercy; and has compassion on us.  This is an evocative reminder of the energizing hope that God offers to all of us.

NOTICES…

Working Bee

Like all good homes, we sometimes need to ‘clean it up’.  As there are many rooms and areas in our buildings, it may take some time, SO, I propose we have a ‘series’ of short working bees over a number of months.  The first of these will be Feb 4 at 10am, and we will be cleaning out the storeroom in the Georgian Room.  If you can spare 2-3 hours to help us, that would be most appreciated.

Wally Wombat Club Wednesdays 9.30am St George’s

(in term time, commencing 1st February)

A new initiative for babies, crawlers and young children, along with their mums, dads or carers will commence on Wednesday 1st February. A wonderful time of play, working with and engaging with interesting materials, singing and stories and talking with the Good Shepherd; all helping these young ones with their quest for life skills and experiences of the Good Shepherd’s love. Please spread the word. For more information contact John on 0477 839 136

Contemporary Worship Returns to Sunday

From Feb 5, the ‘relaxed’ service will return at 4pm on Sunday afternoons.  Pass the word around, tell those who have previously enjoyed this service.  We will be exploring a range of ‘relaxed’ Eucharist service types.

Thank You to all who helped to make our Australia Day celebrations such a wonderful social occasion.  And thank you to all who helped clean and ready the rectory for me to move into.  It may be ‘sparsely furnished’, but it is still clean and comfortable.

Little Lukies resumes Monday 30th January

The new school year is under way so Little Lukies will commence on Monday 30th at 3.00pm. All helpers and interested parties welcome.

This week’s intercessions: Prepared by Peta

Creator God, we give you thanks for our marvellous earth and all its wonders and resources which sustain us. We pray that all nations use these resources sustainably and equitably for the wellbeing of all people. We pray for an end to senseless destruction of the environment and habitat for greed. Help us to live mindfully and to influence decisions to protect your creation.

Creator God, hear our prayer.

Loving God, we thank you for the work of your church and of your love in our lives. We give thanks for the work of your servants Archbishop Phillip and Bp John, and Helen as she settles into ministry with us, and for all who minister in your name. We pray for Rev. John, Jan and Gisela who work to bring children closer to you, and for Barbara and Keith who lead our small prayer groups. We pray for inspiration for new opportunities in our parish to welcome children.   We pray for our Stewardship team and planning for the financial longevity of the parish.

Loving God, hear our prayer.

Compassionate God, we pray for all in the world and in our communities, who need our prayers and to feel your love. Comfort those who are suffering; those living in terrifying conflict zones; those living diminished lives in refugee camps; and those who are not valued in society. Inspire us, who have so much, to help stop unfairness and cruelty wherever we can.

We pray especially for those around us who are in need: our neighbours, our friends, our  families, and our parish family. We pray especially for …… and for any known to us whom we name aloud or in the silence of our hearts…

Compassionate God, hear our prayer.

Saviour God, we give thanks for your life, begun at Christmas time so long ago, and given up for us. We give thanks for the lives of all who have gone before us who have honoured you; we give thanks especially for your faithful apostle, Paul. We remember with love all those whose year’s mind occurs at this time.

Saviour God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace, hear the humble prayers of your people, and grant that what we have asked in faith we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
