Collect

Almighty

and everlasting God,

increase our faith, hope, and love, and, that we may

receive all you promise,

make us love

what you command;

through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Season of Creation Collect:

Jesus, redeemer of our common home and provider for all of creation;

Teach us to value the habitats of all

your creatures given into our care,

so that we can preserve the world

in all of its diversity

Inspire us to value your precious gifts

and never to take more than we can give,

For you live and reign in the diversity of the Blessed Trinity, Creator,

Redeemer and Sustainer.

Amen.

We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh language region, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today

Intercessions  - prepared by John Noble

As we join with so many Christians around the world in the Season of Creation, we thank God for all the wonders of creation and all the gifts which we use in our daily lives, for food, water, for sunshine and rain and for all living creatures which share this world with us. We pray for God’s guidance in how we can use and preserve all the resources which must be kept for those who come after us. Lord, in your mercy...Hear our prayer

We pray for all those areas around the world where there is conflict and civil strife, particularly in Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan and other places where so many people are suffering for conflicts in which they have no influence. We pray for refugees who have been forced out of their homes and for those organisations which bring relief and medical supplies to those who have no other sources of help. Lord, in your mercy...Hear our prayer

We pray for Christians around the world and particularly for those who suffer discrimination and loss, for professing their faith. We pray for church leaders as they seek ways to promote the Gospel message in places which are becoming more secular, in particular for Archbishop Jeremy, Bishop John and our priest Helen. We pray for Anglican and other voluntary organisations which bring help and support to those who can no longer care for themselves. We pray for all residential care homes for the elderly and for those who care for the handicapped in their own homes.

Lord, in your mercy...Hear our prayer

We thank God for our health and strength and pray for all places of healing and treatment, doctors, nurses and other medical staff. Today we pray for....and any others whom we know need special care at this time.

Lord, in your mercy...Hear our prayer

We thank God for all those who live in our community and provide us with all that we need in our daily lives. We pray for those in the emergency services, police, ambulance and fire fighters and we pray for schools, those who teach, and those who learn, that wisdom will be taught as well as knowledge.

Lord, in your mercy...Hear our prayer

We remember all those who have been influential in our lives but are no longer with us, and for those who mourn the loss of loved ones.

We say this grace together: Go before us, O lord, in all our doings with your most gracious favour, and assist us with your continual help, that in all works, begun, continued and ended in you, we may glorify your holy name, and finally by your mercy, obtain everlasting life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Almighty God, you have promised to hear our prayers, Grant that what we have asked in faith, we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

A note from Helen

The reading from Proverbs may be short, but it ‘kicks’ us where we are. Socrates reflected that it was better to suffer injustice than to perpetrate it. This passage does more than affirm ‘cause and effect’ it connects blessedness with justice and compassion. Generosity expands the spirit and frees us from self-interest. And James’ letter invites us to an embodied and egalitarian faith. Our vision of God as the lover of all creation inspires us to welcome the stranger and uplift the impoverished. In the spirit of the ‘beatitudes’ he reminds us that ‘as we have done to the least of these, we have done unto Christ’. And he challenges our cultural values too, putting those at the bottom end of society at the centre of God’s love and our care. Christian charity is about compassion and fidelity, not reward. Our faith can transform the world and challenge us to leave our comfort zones. The stranger deserves reverence and is entitled to the same well-being that we seek. God wants us to embrace the joy of a good name cultivating the inner and outer journeys and seeking for the ‘other’ what we most desire for ourselves.
