We are a Christian faith community living in the way of Christ accepting and welcoming all in loving service, growing Christ’s future on Earth.

Sentence for the Day
Give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap; for the measure you give will be the measure you get back. Luke 6:38

 Collect

O God,

whose blessed Son came into the world that he might destroy the works of evil

and make us your children and heirs of eternal life:

grant that, having this hope,

we may purify ourselves as he is pure; that, when he comes again with power and great glory, we may be made like him in his eternal and glorious kingdom; where he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Ministry Collect

Disturb us, Lord, when we are too well pleased with ourselves; when our dreams have come true because we have dreamed too little; when we arrive safely because we have sailed too close to shore.  Disturb us, Lord, when with the abundance of the things we possess, we have lost our thirst for the water of life.  Stir us, Lord, to dare more boldly, to venture on wider seas, where storms will show your mastery; where losing sight of land, we shall find the stars.  We ask you to push back the horizons of our hopes and to push us into the future in strength, courage, hope and love. Amen.

Readings: Ruth 3:1-5, 4:3-17; Psalm 127; Hebrews 9:23-28; Mark 12:38-44

We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh language region, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today.

Intercessions:  from Traces of Glory by David Adam

Lord, let it be seen that we have been with you,

let there be traces of glory in our lives.

Fill with your radiance all who lead worship,

all who preach, all who reach out in mission.

We remember all who, in your Name, care for the outcasts and the needy in our world. We ask your blessing on all relief organisations.

You are our shelter, O God

Lord, keep us in all troubles.

We give thanks for all who serve others in their work.

We pray for workers in industry, in shops and hotels.

We remember those who clean our streets,

and those concerned with the well-being of the earth.

We pray for social workers and for all who seek to be good neighbours;

and for the neighbourhood to which we belong.

You are our shelter, O God

Lord, keep us in all troubles.

We give thanks for all who have been a support or a guide to us.

We pray for any in our neighbourhood who are lonely,

for all who feel neglected or rejected.

We give you thanks for our homes and our loved ones.

You are our shelter, O God

Lord, keep us in all troubles.

Lord, be a strength to all who have suffered through the greed,

The insensitivity, or the violence of others.

We remember areas where the land has been spoiled and people hunger.

We pray for those who have been driven out of their land and homes.

Lord, bless all who are in illness or in pain, especially ……

You are our shelter, O God

Lord, keep us in all troubles.

Lord, you welcome into your kingdom all who have searched for you,

and all who have served you:

we pray for friends and loved ones departed.

You are our shelter, O God

Lord, keep us in all troubles and grant that, what we have asked in faith, we might by your grace receive. Amen.

A note from Helen

How often have you ‘planned for disaster’, made plans so that, even if the worst happens, you will still be able to survive.  Naomi and Ruth are living through those ‘worst of’ times.  Naomi and Ruth have no male to support them, so Ruth has been ‘gleaning’ grain from the fields after they have been harvested.  Naomi knows that the field belongs to a close relative of her husband, so she ‘plans’ to ensure Ruth will have a future safe from starvation.  She arranges for Ruth to ‘meet’ Boaz, who then makes arrangements to buy Elimelech’s farm so it will remain in Naomi’s family name and Ruth will have security.  In effect, Naomi ‘traffics’ Ruth to ensure her security (the details of this are left out of today’s reading), and then, when Ruth has a child, Naomi, not Ruth, is blessed and celebrated.  Throughout the proclamations of blessings and celebration, Ruth is nameless and only mentioned – tangentially – as the one who bore Naomi’s redeemer and as Naomi’s daughter-in-law who is to her more than seven sons.  Ruth, the Moabite migrant, ensures Naomi has food security and Naomi, as wet nurse to Obed, ensures that he has food security.  Ruth is marginalised and ‘used’ by family and community.  This is not a book which heralds its namesake.  But Ruth remains an important person in the linage of Jesus.

A Ministry Sunday Question to Ponder:
What does loving service look like?

Christmas Market

Hey, hey, it’s only 3 weeks away! Here’s a good opportunity to downsize! Have you got pre-loved goods and clothes that you’re wanting to dispose?

Your home baked cakes and goodies sell well! Please plan to swamp the stall with them! Gardening is high on the agenda here on the mountain! Your potted plants will greatly enhance the plant stall!

We are encouraged as a band of fellow travellers to consider how we might engage in this very special community activity - the Christmas Market!

A message from Anglicare.

At Christmas we celebrate Jesus, hope of the world, born in a lowly manger. Christmas is a time for giving, a time for reflection and a time for hope. Look at the list on the notice board and select what you would like to donate to an Anglicare client bring it to the office and we will ensure it is ‘dropped off’. Please note, all gifts must be labelled, ‘Anglicare Southern Queensland’, brand new, unopened and unused and unwrapped, or wrapped in clear cellophane so contents are visible.
