Sentence for the Day

Stand up and raise your heads; your redemption is drawing near. Luke 21:28

Collect

Eternal God,

you have taught us that the night is far spent

and the day is at hand:

keep us awake and alert,

watching for your kingdom,

and make us strong in faith,

so that when Christ comes in glory to judge the earth,

we may go out joyfully to greet him;

and, with all your saints,

may worship you for ever;

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.

Amen.

Intercessions:  prepared by John Noble

Let us first thank God for the wonders of the world in which we live, the heavens above and the earth beneath, and for all the living creatures with which share God’s creation. May we always use its resources carefully and preserve its beauties for all those who will come after us.

Lord, in your mercy...Hear our prayer.

As we look around our world we see so many conflicts, civil strife and so much injustice of populations who have no say in how they are governed. We pray that peace and friendship may replace the policies of death and destruction in so many places, particularly Ukraine, the Middle East and Sudan, and that political leaders will accept everyone is entitled to live in peace and without fear, whatever their nationality and religious belief. We pray for the work of all those who are involved in peace negotiations, and for so many innocent people who have lost their loved ones, whose comfortable homes have been destroyed and replaced by tents with very basic facilities. We pray for all who work to bring comfort, food, water and medical supplies to those who have none.

Lord, in your mercy...Hear our prayer.

We pray for the leaders of our Anglican Communion, our archbishop Jeremy, our bishop John and our priest Helen, and all who work in our parish. We pray for successful outcomes of the campaign 10 Commitments against Gender Based Violence, and for all who are suffering in silence, those need our help and understanding to resolve their difficulties. We pray for those who work in voluntary organisations and all who are close to those most in need.

Lord, in your mercy...Hear our prayer.

We thank God for our health and strength, and pray for all who work to relieve suffering in hospitals, clinics and other medical facilities. We pray for all who care for the elderly, the disabled and handicapped in their own homes, and for those in residential care. Today we particularly pray for.........

Lord, in your mercy...Hear our prayer.

We pray for our local communities on the Mountain and around Canungra, for those who work in the Emergency Services, police, firemen and paramedics in ambulances. We pray for those who provide the day-by-day services we take for granted, in the local council, schools and shops.

Lord, in your mercy...Hear our prayer.

We thank God for those who have been influential in our lives but are no longer with us, and today we remember....

Almighty God, you have promised to hear our prayers,

Grant that what we have asked in faith, we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

A note from Helen

Advent asks the question – what time is it?  What is the time in your life/ the life of our nation/ of the church.  Advent is about holistic living and awakening to knowing that Christ comes to us in every moment.  Every moment is a ‘second coming’.  Every moment the realm of God draws near.  Every moment is a Kairos moment in which Christ is born in the ‘everyday moments’ of our lives.  Jeremiah shares words of hope.  Life is bursting forth from an arid and broken nation.  There is a future – God has a vision for all of us, for good, for a future and hope.
