Luke 1:45
Collect
Gracious God,
you have visited your people and redeemed us in your Son:
as we prepare to celebrate his birth,
make our hearts leap for joy at the sound of your word,
and move us by your Spirit to bless your wonderful works.
We ask this through him whose coming is certain,
whose Day draws near, your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.
Readings: Micah 5:2-5a; Song of Mary; Hebrews 10:5-10; Luke 1:39-45
We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh language region, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today
Intercessions: prepared by Barbara Fulcher
Creator God, unseen yet ever close. You give us this beautiful world and we have grown careless about caring for it. Thank you for the health and vitality the trees, flowers, fruits and vegetables, hills and valleys and seasons and all your creation gives and keeps on giving us. May those in authority make the best decisions when making laws hoping for the good of all.
We thank you for your Son Jesus, hear our prayer.
Loving God, your love for us and our faith in you helps us to have courage and strength as we care for your church. We pray for Archbishop Jeremy, Bp John, Rev’d Helen and those recently ordained. We pray for Church Council and wardens, all who offered their time and services. May they be given the support they need. We wait in anticipation the coming of Jesus and celebrate again the simplicity of His birth and the sacrifice of Mary and Joseph. May we also learn that simplicity of living in the moment keeps us close to the God image within each of us.
We thank you for your Son Jesus, hear our prayer.
God of our lives, at this busy time of the year we remember particularly all those serving the community, Police, Ambulance, SES, all who fight fires and those who deal with flood disasters. Give them the courage, stamina and strength to keep going when situations become extreme. We pray too for the many volunteers who help where needed. Pray for the safety of youngsters who are on holiday and those who supervise where needed.
We thank for your Son Jesus. Hear our prayer.
Loving God, guide us in our reaching out to those who are sick, homeless, disabled or in any kind of trouble. We pray especially for so many people suffering because of wars and pray for peace. Today we pray especially for those who have asked for our prayers…………….and please name aloud or in the silence of our hearts someone you would like to mention.
We thank you for the example of your Son Jesus, hear our prayer.
Gracious God, you have cared for us through special people in our lives who are now with you eternally. They taught us and trained us in the faith for which we are grateful.
We remember especially today…………….and we ask that we may follow in their footsteps and do the same for those little ones and older who come into our lives.
Give us comfort in the knowledge that our loved ones who have died are safe in your kingdom.
Ever-loving God, hear our prayers through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

A note from Helen
Christmas is ‘just around the corner’, hope is on the horizon, as we all look toward the future. Micah speaks of a coming ruler who will restore peace to the world. This leader, from the ‘back-blocks’ of Bethlehem, will walk in the ways of peace and bring true security to the people. When we look at our global village, we may feel uncertain of what the future will bring. We question whether the prophetic dream can calm our spirits and move us from fearful reaction to hopeful action in facing the moral and political dilemmas of our time. The Coming One may not resolve our present problems but God’s coming is an image of hope that we can all hold on to. When we open our heart to God, and our ‘neighbours’ we will find healing for ourselves and our world.
